Doesn't phosphorus when exited emit white light? Same process is used in fluorescent lamps, the mercury vapour excites the argon which releases UV photons which in turn excite the phosphorous to emit white light, how does it emit green here? Some filter of some kind?

I guess they've used the 445nm lasers as the UV emitting source (close to UV any ways I guess.)

there are dozens of different "phosphorous", which dont have anything to do with the chemical element "phosphor". the "bleach" in paper and fabric is just one kind, fluorescing blue. in fluorescent lamps are several of those mixed, for example three, to have blue, red and green light emitted, which is perceived as "white". think "old-style tube tv".
the phosphor in this projector shines green, no filter needed.

the only thing all of those substances have in common, is, that they absorb higher-energy (=shorter, "blu-er" wavelengths) and emit lower-energy (=longer, red-er wavelengths).
in fact the only difference between phosphorescence and fluorescence is the time in between absorbing and emitting! :-)

fluorescence: nanoseconds
phosphorescence: up to hours, think glow-in-the-dark

oh, and finally: the original, historical (chemical element) phosphor did emit light, but by slowly oxidizing in the air! :-)

Also to remember, the "old" phosphorescent paints, that was using radioactive materials for "self-fluoresce" (like luminor / radiomir from Panerai factories, as example ..... one part of radium in 14 millions of parts of fluorescent material, was making it self-luminous without need light excitation ..... with the only little problem of the radiations, that at that time, none was caring :p) ..... or the "new" glowing materials, that with half hour at the sunlight, can remain glowing from 8 to 12 hours in the dark (uhm, how i want to put my claws on some of them ..... just imagine a car painted with this, white in daylight and all glowing blue/greenish in darkness :p :eg:)

Jay, he original lenses are 6.3mm. Will these fit in place of your 405g1?

..that stuff isnt that hard to get:
Ultra Green v10 Glow in the Dark Paint -
they have many many kinds: different colors, as well as different types (powder, paint etc). they have the brightest/longest glowing stuff by far, i compared them when i ordered a small pack of that paint. it is great fun! paint a "screen" with that stuff on your wall, fire your bluray at it! :-)

be sure to read about the stuff before you order. for example the (strongest) pigment is quite coarse.

Yes, for the rest of the world ..... but, do you know what ? ..... here in Italy, for don't know what reason, glowing paints are illegal :p (i asked in 4 different shops, one had some old water-based glowing paint, the others nothing at all, and they said me that this paint cannot just be ordered cause it's illegal, same as the "catarifrangent" paint :p)

Here's a quote from stanwax over on PL:

"I have taken some measurements by hacking into one leg of one bank and inserting a R47 resistor.
Running the unit & measuring the difference in voltage on a scope across either side of the resistor the results are as follows

Eco mode 2 (hi power save) I get 50% duty and 400mV which I make to be 850mA
Eco mode 1 (medium power save) I get 50% duty and 680mV which I make to be a whopping 1.4A!!
Eco off mode gives the same current but ups the duty to 66%

I ran this test last night and again this morn to be clear I was getting readings that agreed."

Yes, that is the same diameter as the 405-G-1 lenses. So if you have a 405-G-1, you would be able to do some experimenting!

I'll be testing and checking just where the new lens will need to sit inside the nut for the optimal position so that when you focus the lens, it will sit near flush with the module using the AixiZ focus ring. (that is, if this lens is more desirable than the 405-G-1 for the 445 diode)

Edit: Stock projector lens is 6mm... Same size as AixiZ glass. (smaller than 405-G-1)

The first one I got (off of the eBay seller) came marked as a 1W diode.

If diode consumes 1.4A with 50% duty cycle, does it mean that diode can work at 700mA CW? Can we give 700mA to these diodes and be sure that diode will last for hundreds of hours?

We need someone to test these diodes on 700mA, for few hours, days :)

As we speak there are several people doing just that and more. We should have good numbers over the next few weeks, but the general consensus is that these are 1W diodes.

How much would you charge for a 405g1 without the actual lens then?? Just the aixiz modification?

I sell the 4 part assembly for $27 dollars without the lens:

The assembly is modified like so:

* Entry aperture to the lens drilled out larger
* I.D. of the nut enlarged to accept the lens
* Custom fit brass sleeve/retainer (650-G-1 is aluminum)
* And the AixiZ focus ring is also included

The new optic will most likely need to sit in a different position inside the nut...

Which will just mean that the depth of the cut for the I.D. of the nut will have to be determined. And the length of the sleeve/retainer adjusted.

This just depends on the focal length of the lens.

But we still have to see if the stock lens is going to be the one that is most desirable...

So, I'm thinking of pushing my diode @ 750mA, maybe 800mA tops just to ensure longevity. Anyone else here going to push theirs harder?

Also, for this diode I should use the micro boost drive, correct? You think 2 AA batteries will suffice in powering this thing for a decent amount of time? I was thinking of using NiMh since I hate lithiums.

I have a sad new (for me), that can become a good new (for some others that want these diodes) .....

The client that had ordered me the XJ-A140, "vanished" :mad: (and you can imagine what i make him, if i see him around again :gun: :spank: :twak:), and the order that i have already made cannot be took out, cause the distributor ordered it specifically for me, and don't accept order cancellation, in these cases.

I was thinking he was serious, cause he also left me 50 euro as "caparra" (anticipation payment), but it turned to be a scam ..... he took the excuse that he had too much expenses for the home and so on, and retreat the order, saying me to keep the anticipated money (big consolation, 50 Euro on a loss of 955 :p), so now i have in arrival, probably the end of the next week (depend from the courier), a projector that costed me 995 Euro (like 1190 $), that none want to buy as projector, cause here i cannot find so easily peoples that want it as projector .....

I cannot afford that loss, not at the moment, so i'm thinking to take it apart, when it arrive, and sell the diodes, for try to minimize the loss, at least 22 of them ..... i don't care to gain (our prices are not comparable with the USA ones), but don't want to loose too much, at least .....

There is interest for some other diodes, at the same price that you pay here ? ($50 each, plus shipping) ?

And also, i don't want to "interfer" with others group buys, so is this thing feasable, or not ?

If this is interesting someone, let me know, and based on the possible interested peoples, i decide if take the LDs and sell them (and in this case, i can open a dedicated thread), or if try to resell the projector with some loss, as is .....
