I figured I'd make this thread to act as a repository for data on the new 445nm laser diodes from the projectors from the series. Feel free to discuss and post important information in this thread.

Known data:

5.6mm closed can laser diode
case neutral
forward voltage of 4.0-4.5 volts
Original output power in projector: >600mW
Forward voltage: 4.0v @ 300mA
Threshold current: 200-300mA
Beam collimates to a 0.75mm x 4.5mm beam at aperture using Aixiz acrylic lens

Important data needed:

Original current in projector
Maximum safe current
Collimation & lens information

Re: 445nm Casio Laser Diode Compilation Thread

As I said in another thread: A guy on PL said that the specs on these diodes were very similar to the 1W Nichia 9mm 445nm diode. There is a possiblity that this is the same die put in 5,6mm cans, especially in the higher power projectors (There is a 3000 lumen version releasing for sale soon)!

People have run these on 600-700mA without deaths (only for a few minutes though). There are several people doing lifetime tests now, There will be much more data in a few weeks.

Excellent!

Hopefully we will get many testers reporting back here!

One of the first things I will be doing is mounting the stock lens into an AixiZ brass nut to see if it gives satisfactory results as is...

Hey dudes, Where is IgorT now?

I never saw the finish if his 12x lifetest, also his torture machine would come in handy here as one of these cost around $60, not $200.

Anybody heard from IgorT lately?

He's been offline from Skype awful long time now.

I communicated about a week ago w Igor, he had a injury to a hand near all healed, but other than that, I believe he is doing better. I also hope he's getting more regular rest these days although that means we are often not online at the same times! Rats! -Glenn

Re: 445nm Casio Laser Diode Compilation Thread

hi to all on lpf
my names chris and new to lpf
fresh news from casio
the 3000 lumen casio projector has been put on hold, with no idea, if or when they will produce it,
would be nice to know what diodes were going in that beast

Aw that's bad news..

Anyways what to call these diodes? Just XJ-A130 ? Or A130 for short

Pics Taken from PL(andymechanic)

Treshold arround 200mA
Slope efficiency 1.4W/A
From these specs it looks more like a 1W diode!?
Specs are absolutely the same as the ebay diodes.
Collimated with lens27 and two prisms from surplusshed I get 380mW at 500mA after optics with a nice beam:

Picture made without fog and not really dark outside.

These are from Chad:
Here is the spec sheet on the diode I have from ebay. Looks really close to yours.

Also I did a really fast thermal test.

I set the diode at .35a and that worked out to 100mw after about 30min of warm up time no tec. The temp stabilized at 100f.

Then I turned on the tec and plotted the power after about 10 min.
At it's min temp it was 73F and 135mw. I then turned the tec off and let it warm back up. It came back down to 99mw and 102f probably a little warmer because of the thermal mass of the hot side of the tec.

I hope these help
(if the members don't want the info here, just let me know)

Tests on PL of the XJ-A140 projector say 600-700mW inside the projector which means that these are the 1W LDs.

Re: 445nm Casio Laser Diode Compilation Thread

I guess they're so powerful because they have to generate so much green from that material, the name of which escapes me?

Re: 445nm Casio Laser Diode Compilation Thread

I would post a large woot pic, but this is a science thread, so I'll keep it to a short message
