120mW 638nm for $10.99 on the ebay including other Powers.

I got mine in the mail today. So, without reading the thread, are they 650s I'm guessing?

FYI - I think they've more or less determined that the 500s aren't 638, or 500 at this stage.

Negative feedback for both sellers.

Someone from the Enthusiast forum is testing the 500mW diode he is getting 217mW max @ 600mA

Eish! My fun bubble has been burst! Was looking so forward to recieving the diodes...after reading the posts..not anymore :(

I wonder though what these diodes are from. I have never seen a red diode with the attached glass on the front. Anyone got any ideas? If we new their origin we may know another good place to look for future diodes.

Just thinking ..... powering the diode with the "glass" part still attached, what output shape does give you ?

Aw that really sucks, i was really hoping that it would go 400+ 650/660nm.

always wanted a higher power red handheld:cryyy:

Hey guys a little Update. I was able to push my "120mW" to 198mW. Just shy of 200mW>:)

Also want to mention that it seems that when at first i was only running these diode <100mW more like ~70mW which gave me NO Wings.

Last night when i turned the power up the wings started to show ~100mW. The wings are Thinner then a LPC-815 Diode has.

I tried to get a Picture of the difference but my camera cant pick it up.:( Iam Running the 120mW diode i got at 160mW now rather then before when i had it at 70mW.

Anyone knows why at lower powers there is no wings but at higher powers they show up.?

That's promising news.

In order to achieve the 200mW, did you need to exceed the current stated in the auction? I'm wondering if perhaps they've listed the lasing threshold as the operating current, and that is why these are metering underspec when most of us test them?

Anyone ever think these could be some defective dioides that failed QC? Maybe it WOULD pay off to find where these came from?

I would be surprised if that strange glass window would be attached prior to a manufacturer's QC check.

What's puzzling me is the glass window. I feel like unlocking that may give us some ideas as to where these are from. These are diodes, not DPSS modules, so there's no reason I can think of to need a filter in front of the diode to prevent something like IR from escaping.....

....unless perhaps you were actually trying to prevent something else from getting in ?

If these were being shot into a PBS cube, for combination with other wavelengths, might they have needed the filter to prevent other wavelengths from entering the diode and causing damage?

EDIT: That glass looks pretty transparent. I would be surprised if it filtered anything. Is it possible that there is a slight cylindrical curvature to it?

Is the glass sealed so nothing can get passed it? If it is the dioide may be VERY prone to oxidation and moisture. I don't know what else it could block UV ( nah never would be used for that) , but on a real note these must be made by some company we're not famlilar with

Not my 3 '200s' today. But I didn't have a chance to mess with them. Not that there's much to tell, but i'll post spectrometer information at least and the results of torture testing one.

I got a 80mW diode from lazeerer today. At 550mA, it stops lasing, but turning back the current causes it to lase again. I have detected no degradation so far. The mode changes with current - similar to a blue diode, but not nearly as severe. At one point I was picking up two fundamental wavelengths because of this. They were only ~1.5nm apart, so don't expect a multi-line red.

Testing was done in an Aixiz module in an aluminum block with a regulated bench power supply and an Aixiz glass lens coated for red.

GRAPHS!

Thanks for the Testing. +1

WoW almost 680nm at the max. Is that Normal for 660nm Reds.?

These suckers dont Die. I past the Max a few times and just turning the pots back alittle and there fine.:)

Seem like pretty useless diodes unfortunately. The LOC bests this in every category besides MAYBE durability since this seems to be quite tolerant of over current.
