Argh... driving around here (EU) is becoming an ultra-luxury!!!

I pulled my 5.0L Mustang GT up, grabbed the "Regular Unleaded" nozzle and began to fill up the car. I hadn't bothered to look at the prices (it's not like I can do anything about it anyways...). Pumping stops, I look up at the total... €72 ($96) for 52L (13.75gal)... OMGWTF!

That's €1.38/L or $6.99/Gallon... for re-gu-lar!!! Dunno what it's up to back in the States but I'm betting it isn't up to freakin $7/gal...

:wtf:

p.s. One liter is equivalent to 3.8 U.S. gallons. 1 Euro is roughly $1.33 (at time of publication ;))

Argh... driving around here (in a 5.0l Mustang) (EU) is becoming an ultra-luxury!!!
Fixed that for you.;)

Gas prices in Portugal are even worse:
1.35euro/liter for diesel
1.60euro/liter gasoline

Lucky my car runs on vegetable oil for 99cent/liter right now, usually more like 80cents.
So I pay ~6euro for 100km. Hard to beat, at the moment.

Yes, we have the worse prices of the world :p

Don't know in the rest of EU for sure, but as example, here in Italy, 77% of the fuel price is TAXES ..... other than this, the most part of these taxes (over 70%) is a tax added in the WW2 time as "war tax" called "accise", that had to be took away when the war ended (but, ofcourse, as any other tax here in Italy, when was time to take away it, gov just "forgot" to do that :p)

Mean while in Finland:
95oct (with max 10% ethanol): 1,46 euro/litre
98oct (with max 5% ethanol): 1,50 euro/litre
Diesel (winter): 1,26 euro/litre

And don't mention how much cars cost. Oldest cars can be found in Finland :(

Have Fun!

Those are veyr nice prices Mohenberg!

I think Holland is pretty much the most expensive country in the EU, a litre of regular (euro 95) petrol costs EUR 1.63 at the moment - about us$2.20 a litre at the current exchange rate.

I'm glad i have a home office so i can do most work from here... a daily commute would get expensive!

lol NO, i liked it better when it dropped to around $1.50 gallon. I was filling up my car for $20. That's around $0.40/liter

But IIRC it was around election time....prices always go down during elections...
I still have a picture of the gas price sign on one of my old cell phones......

When I bought my Stang (Miami 1995), Regular (unleaded) was around $1.20. When I bought my first car (~ '87) it was still under a buck (1 USD).

When I moved to Austria, I think a Liter of regular unleaded was still under 1€ so although the transition from Miami to Vienna turned the Stang from an average Joe's ride into an exotic gas-guzzling cruiser, it was still "under control". I used to drive it down to Italy (Venice, for example) and it would take about 1 1/2 tanks to get there (roughly 500km or 315 miles).

Now we take my GF's Mazda 3 which can manage the same trip with just about a tank's worth. At almost $100 / fill-up, you're better off flying... Speaking of which, I just bought a RT ticket to Barcelona for... €180 ($240)...

I also now own a yearly Public Transportation card and cruise the Stang on (Spring-Fall) weekends only. For the trips out to the skiing areas we take the Mazda

A few years ago, my wife and I were vacationing in Ireland. When we stopped for fuel the first time in the rental, my wife remarked that 1.47€ didn't seem so bad. We were paying <$2.00 per gallon in the US then.

It was then that I pointed out to her that the price was per liter (~$7.70 per gallon)!

She did some quick math in her head and simply responded, "Oh my!"

The good news is that I didn't kill us trying to remember to drive on the left side of the road. I did get close once and once caused a minor "traffic jam" in a McDonald's parking lot though.

When we went back, we stayed in Dublin, walked a lot, and took tour buses ;)

We are VERY spoiled here in the US. Most of the people here haven't a clue how good we have it.

Peace,
dave
