I thought, "Did I pay $500 last week for what is a $50 diode today?"

I thought nothing really. It's simply natural progression, as in time we will have green diodes in projectors, and these shall fall by the wayside.

Well, my first thought was for those people who probably bought the 445nm diodes for far more to sell them at $500 at a profit. My thought: OWNED!

Second thought: 5-10 CENTS A MILLIWATT?! And "exotic" blue no less?!

You're not the only one Dave.. LOTS of people bought those diodes. It was an unbelievably fast price drop, but one that was inevitable. Some of us have been waiting for laser-based display technology to become mainstream for some time.. It's the future of the laser hobby I think.

I thought it would have some youtube link and a rick roll. I didn't really know what to expect, I wasn't a big blue laser fan until I saw 2007's 69mw 473. Then I thought...'Hmmmm 1,000mW of BLUE....' DAMN!

When I first saw Daniel Briggs' thread on PL I had to scrape my jaw off the floor. But then I thought that it was about the right time for that to happen.. been waiting for it for awhile now.

Yeah. I'm a big boy. I'm over it (mostly ;) )

OK. Maybe one more tear :cryyy:

But now, I swear, I'm over it :tinfoil:

Its was a most incredible 24hrs for me, I thought I had missed the chance when I saw the GB here and it was on hold.
Then when I went to PL I jumped on the GB there thinking...if I get 50-100mw of blue for my projecter at that price...RESULT!

Now ppl are talking of 1 watt out of a 5.6mm package, thats unreal and I will only need to run my diode at just above threshold current, thats just plain silly:)

48hrs ago 1 watt of 473 was 2500-3500 bucks. Now its looking virtualy obsolete?

Its a cruel blow for some and many christmases all rolled into one for others.

Enjoy!

An understatement my friend:
The cheapest HIGHEST power 473nm from laserglow is a <10% stability >800mW labby for:

$9,360!!

For the better stabilities, you need to ask for a quote!
<5% stability for a >300mW labby is $9,000!!!!!

But paying $500 for a WATT of blue isn' TOO rediculous. Paying $7,500 for >1mW of something...is:
