Re: My experience with SciFi lasers

I was going to help Joker out by becoming a warehouse for him in the usa but with all drama from the last week and some things that were said and I am not going to elaborate on that and the language and actions I have backed out of that arraignment. Now I think we need to let the commotion die down for a bit. Im disappointed with the actions of Joker he crossed a few lines that should of never been crossed. Others with in the community lashed back at joker and things got way out of control. So I am taking a few days away from the forum to keep for throwing in the towel on LPF together. I have lots of friends here and I do not want to ruin some of those friendships because of the drama

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

Sort of got my sci-fi laser today, it's not exactly what I ordered but as long as it functions I'll just deal with it, since swapping it will probably take another year.

How is it different? Not the correct model?

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

Thanks for the DTR link! Glad to have a place that sells all the parts I need to do my own. Time to break out the soldering iron for the first time in a while.

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

I'm not sure laser pointers, even higher powered ones, are banned in the US. I checked laws before ordering mine to make sure--both Federal and State. All I found was that they were illegal to manufacture here, but not illegal to possess. Other than that, it was mentioned to be illegal to point at aircraft, police officers or at anyone as a way to intimidate or harm. So it appears that they are perfectly fine to possess.

I want to further clarify this for those who still don't know, there are also federal regulations that are equivalent to laws, you have to check those too before you decide if something is legal or not. Most of you who have been here a long time already know this stuff.

Hand held battery powered lasers of 5mW and up are not pointers, they are considered for legal purposes to be surveying, leveling, and alignment lasers. There is an import ban on these but they are legal to own or to build one from parts as long as your not going to sell it to someone in the U.S. Please see this FDA list that is constantly growing: Import Alert 95-04 notice that there are some familiar names on the list including CNI, Wicked Lasers, Laserglow, Dragon Lasers. This is why some of them have stopped shiping lasers of 5mW and up to the U.S. You can still try to import high power lasers, you won't get in any trouble, you just risk losing them if they don't get through customs. Again we are talking about battery powered lasers, this doesn't apply to lab lasers.

In the United States you can have any power laser you want.. I checked and double checked before I ordered.. I'm not breaking any laws by buying a perfectly legal product and neither is anyone else... I can only speak for the United States though... I don't know other countries laws.

Yes this is true you can own any power of laser you want, there are however ways to easily do something illegal with one if you go using it outside. It's not legal to use it outside within 10 miles of any airport, to do that you're supposed to get a variance from the FAA and that means you need a legitimate purpose such as surveying or microwave dish alignment or some such thing. I am sure many here ignore that regulation and only use their lasers outside in the middle of the night, 10 miles from any airport covers a majority of the U.S. It is also illegal to shine a laser in the flight path of an aircraft, you don't have to point it at the aircraft, and if any commercial pilot sees it then it will be reported as a laser incident. Don't take these things too lightly, unless you are in a very remote area, use your lasers mostly indoors. The more laser incidents the more they will crack down with more laws and regulations.

Sci-Fi Lasers - A Cautionary Tale for Those Who Would be Laser Builders

I am sorry to see Eitan, thejoker301 seemingly to have become yet another LPF member getting caught up in the difficulties of being a laser builder when having ridden too high on one's success gets swept up into accepting more orders than he can deliver. A pivotal point for a hobbyist laser builder when he gets over extended like this is often in the making of the fatal mistake in continuing to accept new orders (the taking of other people's hard earned money) while at the same time failing to acknowledge his growing problem of being unable to fulfill his commitments. Some when beset with this type of crisis try to hide behind more and more elaborate excuses instead of just owning up early on to having gotten in over their head, but rather instead slip into creating a desperate web of deception before falling completely out of sight into a state of silent avoidance.

Most often these individuals start off with such good intentions coupled with a real flare of talent and skill for creating much sought after laser pointers so much the same as so many others have done and continue to do so in meeting their commitments in a successful manner. However, it seems the underlying problem begins when these particular members fail to transition successfully from being just a small quantity "hobbyist" builder into becoming in actuality more of a "small business owner" replete with the new demands on them for developing additional skills for managing their time, money, and ability to process orders in an organized and disciplined manner. One of the several slippery slopes these laser builders may find themselves set upon is with the commingling of their personal spending money with the funds transferred to them in good faith for laser build orders. Another slippery slope is when what was so much fun and exciting about building lasers begins to lose its appeal to the ever increasing demands on their personal time as each day brings more and more new orders that gradually becomes viewed more as drudgery while also realizing they are having less and less time for anything else.

However, the point they reach for setting in motion an eventual day of reckoning occurs when they find themselves having either spent too much of the order money with not enough left for laser builds, and or of having accepted far more orders than they could ever hope to find the time to fulfill. Or, there can also be the occurrence of a life event that can suddenly demand all of their time and attention, and since these individuals are nearly all an exclusive one man show when a major life distraction occurs they appear to have seemingly and for no reason to have suddenly and without notice gone dark in response to PMs, emails or other means of contact, even as anxiety begins to soar among those having sent money began feeling more and more that they have been hung out to dry without explanation.

A period of prolonged excuses without results and or going dark for lack any response for an extended length of time can only hasten the precipitation of the resultant cascade effect of members posting complaint threads filled with their frustration and anger. It is at this point how these laser builder members then respond or their lack of a response thereof to the ensuing fire storm of rage from their stiffed customers that can all but seal the fate of one who was formerly well trusted and praised as being a highly reliable supplier up to that point. There have been those whose response was in lashing out in a childish onslaught against the very ones whose money they’ve taken along with their trust in a vain attempt to blame everyone else except themselves. And then there have been those members who have been able to recover a measure of reputation by having truly stepped up in admitting their failure and have been seen as making an honest attempt toward making things right; however; there will always remain the collective memory of their missteps that will give members pause in consideration of ever doing business with this member again.

Note some of the previous members we've seen to have gotten into similar straits:

I can only surmise Eitan may just now be realizing the gravity of the situation he is currently within, but as to whether he will be able to man up to publicly acknowledge he got to this point as a result of no one else except himself will be a tall order indeed as he has already dug himself into a pretty deep hole in having lashed out at members of the forum much less yet to have shown any semblance of remorse or regret.

Yes that is all very true.... So don't be idiots with your lasers... We don't need anymore laws and regulations.

Unfortunately, I think he's gone and won't be returning to either the forums or his website to fill more orders.

Last I checked, his website was still up and running.

Edit: Never mind!

You don't think he is accepting payments in order to refund owed customers?

He may be way underwater right now, that may be the root of this problem, all the delays and stall tactics, someone just got a beat up laser with a screw for a rear contact. Maybe he has spent the money before earning it?

Keeping the ad up and trying to dig out may be his only chance, and these complaints are blocking that chance, but he was already crashing badly, maybe if people in laser banned countries buy he could intimidate them into forfeiting their money? I get the feeling that was already happening.

These are speculations, but the question is what do you want, to save others or get your money back?

Any honest answers?

Re: My experience with SciFi lasers

Hi,

Also here no replies from Eitan to my emails. I also started a PayPal claim, luckily still within 180 days. Let's see what happens. Hope the best for all others who ordered a laser and didn't get anything!
