Buyer beware! Sci-fi lasers
Sadly it's come down to this. My final resort was to warn people of this sad reality. That a highly praised company can just be as bad as a single individual company. As with my situation, all I can say is that "Every rose has it's thorns".
My story begins back last year on the 27th of May 2015. Months prior I got hooked, like most people on this forum, on the cool and fascinating effects of HIGH POWERED LASERS! I started to look into this new gadgetry and I thought I finally found the Holy Grail of Laser Shops: Sci-Fi Lasers. I was fascinated by the videos, explanations, and price of some of Eitan's (Founder of Sci-Fi Lasers) Lasers. Just the shear power alone was making me want to shove my entire months paycheck into my computer. But I was more careful about it then it seems.
So a week went bye searching and looking around at what the market had to offer and I was pretty set on buying one of Eitan's fantastic lasers (especially the 445nm because of it's destructiveness). So I sent Eitan a email with some of my concerns about the laser and just about lasers in general and if it's worth it to make my own. Well he contacted me back in reasonable time (72 hours) and explained my concerns and what it would take to invest into my own laser. Well I was about 18 at the time and even though I was really fascinated about the science of lasers and such, I wasn't about to sign up for a sure $100+ loss right out of my wallet. So I decided I wanted to buy a laser from Eitan.
About a couple months passed pondering the questions of if I should drop $180+ on the laser or not. But finally after some really generous reviews I read here on LPF and youtube reviews I decided to give it a shot. I emailed Eitan back and was ready to put down my purchase. I decided on the newest 2.6 -3W Blue SMP 445nm Laser that Eitan just made and emailed him directly about it. I was a little tight with money and after a couple of emails back and forth he cut me a deal with $20 bucks off. After that I was pretty much sold and sent him the money through Paypal and here is where the real story begins.
At first everything worked out. Eitan said that he's have the laser done in a couple of weeks as we emailed back and forth. I would ask for updates now and then and he would reply in a day or so. Then a couple of weeks went by and I waited. I would ask him for a update every other week and he would reply in a timely manor. He would say that things were crazy with orders and he was backed up so I would wait. June went by and I had pictured me with that laser cutting through all sorts of black material and it held off my anticipation for a bit. July came and went and all the while still keeping in contact asking for updates and Power readings. July was a big month for me because he sent the power reading of the laser. Yes I think it was 2.9W. Such a high power for such a small device, but still I waited. August came and went with little notice. I started to research the type of batteries I should use on this new and powerful laser I was going to receive.. in just a few more weeks... ya ..just .. a few more ... months... But I had confidence for Eitan, I mean look at all these nice reviews online about his customer service and what am I saying? He's probably working his butt off right now trying to fix up my laser.
Well it was probably around November when I started to get a little skeptical. I mean it had been 5 months! I mean I could have got into a boat and sailed over there to Egypt by now and gotten my laser before he could send it... But still I waited. Then the end of November happened and it was a exciting time because Eitan FINALLY sent my laser and it was coming here, to my house! Eitan apologized for the wait and I didn't care that much because I was FINALLY getting the laser that I've been waiting for Months for! Well it arrived not too long after and I had it in my hands. All that controlled power in such a small device. I was careful though, I spent some good money on the top of the line Eagle wear eye pieces for me to use. Not to mention the high quality rechargeable batteries I paid for.
I finally hooked it all up and my hopes were crushed. The dang laser didn't even work... All that time waiting... I quickly emailed Eitan back and messed around with the laser and it turns out that the positive and negative plates weren't in alignment with the battery and I decide to send it back to Eitan to fix. Eitan apologized and said to send it back which I did. I remember that thing was $20 bucks to send back.. I didn't question it because I could believe it, that thing was heavy. Well I still had hope and waited some more...
Well he never did send me the product he described and here I am almost a year later. The last time I heard from him was April 13th and the only thing I can do now I warn other people for my mistake. If you're doing it through paypal, MAKE SURE you get the product within a month or so because if you wait too long like I did, paypal won't backup your case if you file one and won't reimburse your lost money.
Be careful with your hope for other people. Sometimes it can all blowup in your face. like it did to me. If you have any questions or concerns, email me at:
