Cheap and Neat - Adjustable CC/CV DC to DC Driver Module
________________________________________
I was looking for an adjustable CC CV (constant current/constant voltage) driver module for setup, testing and burn in for LEDs and LDs when I came across this very interesting eBay listed module:
LED Voltage and current display LM2596 DC-DC Step Down CC-CV Adjust Power Supply

Quote:
Features:

•The 0.36-inch voltmeter ammeter LED digital tube, voltmeter resolution 0.1 V, ammeter resolution 0.01 A, with blue and green LED digital tube
• Non-isolated step-down constant current, constant voltage module (CC CV) charging module
•Input voltage: 7-26V
•Output voltage: continuously adjustable (1.25-25V)
•Minimum Voltage difference: 2V
•Output current: rated 2.5A, the largest 2.5A (more than 15W, please install the heat sink)
•Constant current range: 0-2.5A (adjustable)
•Size: ultra-small size 49 (W) * 70 (L) * 17 (H) mm (without potentiometer)
•Output power: natural cooling 15W, 25W with heatsink
•Conversion efficiency: up to 92% (output voltage higher, higher the efficiency)
•Output ripple: 20M bandwidth (for reference only)
•Input 12V Output 5V 2.5A 60mV (MAX)
•Operating temperature: Industrial grade (-40 ℃ to +85 ℃)
•(ambient temperature exceeds 40 degrees, lower power use, or add one heatsink)
•Full load temperature rise: 45 °C
•No-load Current: Typical 10mA (12V switch to 4.2V)
•Load regulation: ± 1%
•Voltage regulation: ± 0.5%
•Dynamic response speed: 5% 200uS
•Potentiometer adjustment direction: clockwise (increase), counterclockwise (decrease)
•Indicator: Yellow LED constant current, red LED work, fully charged of green LED
•Output short circuit protection: Yes, constant current (constant current value of the current settings)
•Input reverse polarity protection: No, please comply with our plate or in the input reverse polarity protection diode in series.
Seller's ratings show that he has sold 9 of these since Feb with all positive feedback. So I ordered one and I will be most interested in how well it performs and how clean the output looks like on a scope (ripple, and on/off spiking, etc.)

You're going to want to remove those little multiturn pots and replace them with bigger, probably panel mount ones if you're going to be adjusting them frequently. Those multiturn pots are only rated to a few adjustments and will break very easily.

Keep us informed with how they perform :)

For $20 you cant go wrong.

Would love to know what "Lamp regulation" is though

Interesting driver. I like the LED display for current and voltage reading.

Isn't that basically a driver with a build-in meter ?

Wow, this could work as a mini Bench power supply, and it's less expensive too! :D

Would this work the same way a regular bench power supply would? I'm looking for something to replace mine that died :(

It might be dumb to ask, but when you post your results could you also post the output pattern of a known good power supply for comparision.

Its an absolute bargain for what it is, I'm grabbing one.
