556nm, at least from what I've seen of 561nm would be a pretty hideous color.

488nm around that power would be nice in a handheld...

There is a thread about 556nm if you want to check it out :)

Link is below:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f40/new-portable-dpss-wavelength-556nm-20mw-cni-65451.html

The color is almost identical to 561nm, the only slight difference in color is 556nm appears to be *paler*(as said by aryntha). I personally would love to own 556nm one day, but im going to need a pretty hefty wallet, those things ain't cheap :D

There might be a slight visible difference.

But yeah personally I admit that 561nm isn´t that beautiful to look at.

So send the 561nm back to me ZRaffle :shhh:

Could one compare the visible difference between 556nm/561nm to be the same as 589nm/593.5nm?

From what I have seen in photos there is a dynamic difference between 589 and 593.5

That is not actually 556. It was a confirmed 561.

It's a toss up between 556 and 593 for me ...

I want to fill the WL gap with 556, but that much 593 would be spectacular...

Based on the 543, and 568 that I have, I can safely assume that 556 will be a relatively dull color.

So 300mW of 594.5 :)

I passed up 5W 532nm for 300mW 593.5nm.

5W 532 is FAR too bright to be pleasing :(

I would speculate 556nm wouldnt be much different in color to 561nm. Its just not near any color transitions on the spectrum. (which is why 589/594 is so different, and for me and some argon owners 473/476nm is pretty different.)

Agreed!
5W of 532nm does seem a bit too much for me aswell, I have never owned 593.5nm but it does look like a splendid color even at only 5mW. That said, I can only imagine how amazing 300mW of it would look like :D

Just seen this, it'd probably be the 593.5. I'm quite intrigued by that wavelength ATM, and I have more than enough money in the bank for laserglow's 593.5nm pointer... Tempted...

Save up and buy a CNI 80mW 589nm Laser. I enjoyed my CNI 593.5nm Pointer for a while but I ended up selling it. 100mW is like the sweet spot of lasers for me. Bright enough for beam viewing, but not so bright that my camera's sensor overloads. Its all about beam enjoyment and pics for me.

500mW of 473 lame get the 1W nichia diode. Also 1W of 500nm would be the most killer of all rare builds

...and 100mW doesn't turn everything you point it at to cinders.

Any idea on pricing for CNI's 80mW? I have looked on the CNI website but I cannot find prices ANYWHERE...

I think I'd rather 593.5 though.

You have to contact CNI and get a quote from them :)
