Tunnel Effect Attachment

Just reproduced this on my desk. Found a DC motor in an old cd drive. Thing looks sweet!

pics are great but in person there is no comparison --to being IN the tunnel its awesome- placing you hand in the tunnels path& it leaves very nice long shadows I found it best if the fog/smoke is both thick and to get that whispy efx no air movement(fans-A/C etc)

At STEXLEM Adam(300 Evil) placed two chairs in the tunnel and two at a time he 'walked' everybody to these chairs- our hands covering our eyes=- then he gave the rules- stay seated- only get up or move much with eyes covered-

he had QS running on a 2W RGB full color PJ -- of his own design IIRC and as it was analog he dialed down the power to make it less dangerous-

so we had way more than a single green circle many abstracts and every combo of color you can imagine- Most had to be coaxed out so others could take a seat, We did this until 4AM.

Jonathon (Platinum) had his 3W 532 MG beamer doing cones- waves shapes and a bunch of Liquid Sky right above our heads- as this one was not dialed back- We did all this as safely as we could- yellow warning tage closing off the danger zones- Adam made his safety speech- everybody signed Liability Waivers-
I was the only other laserist there- the rest were my good friends- two B-Day parties and a cook-off made it impossible for me to have this with a larger number of people but IMHO my first stab at being a LEM host was a winner- 150$ for a huge warehouse for a fourt day weekend, sad note after-- Adam Dad took a slew of stills and lost of video- rthe shows the mirror ball shots- and he left the Camera in their rent car when they got to the hotel and some SOB smashed the window and stole the Canon DSL- so we have no pics to show--

Very nice. As if I didn't spend enough time and money at the hardware store. What would happen if you had 2 or 3 mirrors at different angles attached to a small board on the motor? Would it make 2 or 3 rings?

I believe multiple motors can make a spirograph effect. I have seen some pictures around the forum and it looks very cool, especially if you can get multiple colors in the mix. I have not yet dabbled in multiple motors, I might try to make some more easily adjustable mounts first.

I believe multiple motors can make a spirograph effect. I have seen some pictures around the forum and it looks very cool, especially if you can get multiple colors in the mix. I have not yet dabbled in multiple motors, I might try to make some more easily adjustable mounts first.

^^ A handheld HP spiro sounds like a good project- but more than one color may be very hard- 3 colors harder- you would need a reostat/pot to control speed and a switch that allowed reverse- DPDT I think is what they are called-
I would think that modding a small spiro laser would be easier but these are very low power laser BUT get on of these ( they only come in red) remove the switches and motors and use those parts inside your PVC attachment- the motors are very tiny and side from speed and direction the PCB has a circuit that steps thru all the combinations of speed and direction control.

It's all about the angles. I tried taking some quick pics of the tunnel to demonstrate. The beam goes to the first mirror which reflects it back and up, and the motor mirror reflects it up a little more. Since the tunnel is so small near the motor mirror, it doesn't get blocked by the first mirror.

At the tunnel's current angle, if I hold the laser parallel to the ground, it will project a slight oval. I have to aim it slight downward to get a perfect circle, i.e. the tunnel center will then be parallel with the ground.

I might be able to have the tunnel come out straight if I increased the angle the motor itself even more, but then I risk blocking the beam with the motor. It is good enough for me so I just left it the way it was.
