The I "C" Red Battle Royale LPF Contest

I really hope I win! I will try to get pics tonight of my designs. The issue is I need to darken them somewhat so they are visible. I think it would be stellar to have a back up diode just in case. I could also maybe build a second one! I hope my designs dont get thought less of because I stabbed my checking account and bought a diode already.

I think we all hope we win! Hah. My project needs to go on hiatus at least until Sunday or so - I am moving back into school on Sunday so all my things are packed up. But I got the right package of the binary counter in today, so that's the final piece of puzzle before I rig up the whole host! I have the buttons and everything. Come Sunday, I think I will have the whole build finished, with just a few wires sticking out the front for test loading.

Will the winners receive an appropriate lens too?

Thorlabs has it. Look at their site for one with 1/2inch diameter and 50mm focal length.

Got it. I suppose I won't order it unless I win. I'll just drill the hole for it if and when I win. Otherwise, I will need a smaller lens!

Good thinkin haha. I am just waiting on the host and the driver right now.

Gentlemen, Just a little update. Progress on the " Judge dREDd " design is moving forward.

I again thank Laserbeak for this opportunity. I have had WAY tooo much fun...Planning and Plotting !!!

My design will mux ( yes...MUX) Optics,Electronics, the LAZ-650C...against the backdrop of Steam Punk and" The Lawgiver "

Good luck to my fellow contestants !!! I am sure we will see some novel and great designs !!!

45 days and counting !!!

An update from me: I got the correct package, but this time, I installed it backwards! I think that, plus the fact I accidentally fried the IC (fed it over 7V) means I have to order ANOTHER one! Shame. Ah well, I ordered it express, so should be here in a few days.

So again, minor problem :\ The counter isn't working properly. No idea why. If I feed the rest of the board the binary signal (000 to 111), it'll work perfectly. But the counter doesn't want to do that properly. I am going to try other things, I suppose.

Hope this works :\

Oh crap, I've been sleeping! Is it too late? I can do machining if anyone wants to team up with me. See the DOH! thread for an example. I am heavily desirous of one of these diodes!

So good news. I posted over on allaboutcircuits what my problem was, and they may have solved it. I ordered parts to attempt a solution, and hopefully it'll work! Then I can begin heatsink design!

I'm assuming the counter is to generate the PWM signal? It could be more easily done with a microcontroller. The debounce and counting and everything would all be done in software. Smaller chip, lower parts count, etc. Actually, with a few small alterations, I already have a solution ready to go which uses a PIC10F200. If we partner up, I know we could do something awesome.

Nope, it doesn't generate a PWM signal! Actually, it simply outputs a 3 bit signal. The reason I went with a counter chip was because I figured it would be easier. Also, it's more home-brewed. Have you ever heard of a driver made without a microcontroller that has modes? XD

EDIT: And actually, the part count for the modes is pretty low. All it is going to require is two ICs (one is the counter, another is a schmitt trigger), two resistors, and two capacitors. The rest is to properly control the driver.
