The I "C" Red Battle Royale LPF Contest

Ahh, a mode switch. Much easier to do with a micro, imo. Maybe even easier to do with a 3 position switch. Still, a Scottsdale/Scottville team would at least sound interesting, no? I guess I'm still up for grabs for anyone who is still looking for a partner. I can do all the machining and electronics design, but coming up with a creative shape for a host is not one of my strong points. I would just give up and mount it on a big ugly heatsink.

Three mode switch is dandy, except I have 8 modes and two buttons to do it with! Heh. I would partner up, but I really want this diode for myself XD That and the electronics is already done (just need to test the modifications) and I have access to a machine shop :\

Naw. It's really easy, actually. Already have that part working! Just need the counter working.

My build is what it is. I've described every function and such, and now I wait. I'll make some more proof of concept pics if you want.
Cheers, Nate

Well, late last night, it seems I was struck with a bit of inspiration. It came in the form of a simple pack of gum.

:D

This will simplify some things while at the same time complicating others. It will be machined from aluminum bar and probably end up being larger than an actual pack of gum for proper heat sinking and to be able to thread in a lens and everything. Plus it's a good excuse to make a simple rectangular host. Has anyone made a rectangular host before?

Keep in mind that this is what it will look like without the "wrapper".

Bear in mind that the lens will need to be 50mm in front of the diode. So that equals 5 centimeters which is 2 inches.

I have, I actually like box hosts. Take a look at my sig (532nm and 685nm). But go for it, I'd love to see yours!

What's with the tiny aperture? Won't it clip the beam?

It might. That is why there are no dimensions on it yet. When it gets a diode in there the idea was to measure the beam and adjust accordingly. That way it can be as small as possible. I think a smaller aperture would look better.

Did you find a lens that small that will work? I had to use a 50mm to 60mm lens to get the beam to looking its best!

It can always be bored larger later on. This is going to be one huge pack of gum! :yh:

So I added the Schmgitt trigger and it worked wonders! It's just a mess now (and I accidentally ordered the wrong resistor value for current sensing). I am going to add the changes to the board and reorder them with a fast supplier.... But the proof of concept works, so that's good :D

What's the official end date of the competition? I need to make sure I have enough time! Hah.
