hey guys

i spoke with http://laserpointerforums.com/members/spyrorocks/ (brad) on laserchat today. i have known him for a bit and he is very level-headed, fair, and a logical thinker (not to mention a really good php programmer)

is everyone cool with him joining as a mod?

I have nothing against Spyro being a mod.... except...

When the last selection of Mods were proposed...
It was made clear by certain members that I should not
be allowed to be a mod because I was selling my LaserBee
products on the Forum...

Spyro and MM are selling an LPM here on the Forum...
If it is good for me... I suppose it should be good for
other members as well... IMO

I voted no... for no other reason.. sorry Spyro..

this is a good point jerry and i already spoke with brad about something with this on laserchat

i think he would need to not advertise anything about his company if he was going to be a mod (even in signature or whatever)

i think w/ ur situation at the time u actively had a banner ad on LPF

do u guys think its OK if he is a mod, if he doesnt have any type of advertising on LPF for his company whatsoever? i already spoke with spyro about this on laserchat and it seemed like this was 100% ok with him

assuming he gets rid of the advertising, do u guys think it would be ok?

i see spam but not too often. How about we get TJ to be a nice mod?

Is TJ fluent in PHP?

I don't care who the mods are, I haven't really had a use for them.
I operate using a very proven technique. Don't start shit, and don't get involved in shit. Works great for me.

So sure, make him a mod. Programming knowledge is a plus.

I don't see why not. Honestly, I don't see why people advertising can't be mods, either, so long as the moderation they get involved in doesn't involve their product or product line.

Sure, there's been arguments about LPMs lately, but how often does that really happen?

I'd just say if your sig sells LPMs, then delegate any moderation on a thread about LPMs to a mod who doesn't have skin in that particular game... Pretty simple, but, of course, that's just one person's opinion...

Your mileage may vary and mine certainly may not necessarily be correct :P But someone selling LPMs (be it Spyrorocks or Jerry) can boot trolls and spammers just as readily as someone who isn't. :)

(And, honestly, nods to Mohrenberg's "method"; -- don't start shit and don't get involved with shit that's going down... Thats how I try to live my life here as well... I still consider myself relatively new and a 'guest' here, so no way i'm going to get in someone else's face.)

Avery runs the place and the buck stops with him -- so honestly it's hist judgement that matters in the end. From what I've seen, Avery seems level headed himself, so if he thinks Spyrorocks would be a good mod, then, that's enough for me.

How does this differ from say Dave selling diodes?

How does this differ from say Dave selling diodes?

Dave isn't running a business, thus is not in direct competition with anyone. I have a hard time recalling Dave spamming his wares anywhere on the site.

Him selling diodes is more of a service than a business. A "I've got some if you need some" sort of thing.

Fair enough. And a good service he provides too.

I agree... that is the easiest and safest way to approach it...

If you are not the Target...
If you are the Target.. then the Flight/Fight mechanism kicks in...:undecided:

How about Crazy Jay? :D

j/k

I havent had much to do with Spyro.

I MOD on a couple of different forums, and the criteria are usually, someone who knows something about the forum thier moderating, and , spend a lot of time onthe forum, if thier not around much, not much point in them being a mod?

I haven´t heard much of Spyrorocks since I joined the forum. He wasn´t active for a few months, right?

He used to be part of another forum that merged with LPF. I don't recall if he was the owner or just a moderator. He has remained "active" here. He just doesn't post much. Although it has picked up recently ;)

You can easily see what any member has been doing in the forum via their profile. Go to their profile

Click on "statistics." Then click on "find all posts" or "find all threads."

Peace,

Just to clarify where I came from,

I was originally at LaserCommunity for maybe 3-4 months, felt the need to get a little deeper into the laser hobby, and joined LPF September of 2007.

I'm not usually the type who's quick to post unless I have something of real value to add, I'm more observational.

And about this whole thing about Radiant, honestly, i'd prefer the ability to be able to keep a link in my signature or something like that, and do customer service and such on the forum for Radiant because, of course, its a duty to my customers. Id also have the duty of making fair decisions on the forum for the community. I don't have problems removing my business from the decisions I make, unlike some people here may think. Radiant doesn't consume me in that it affects my judgment on other matters on the forum. Its a personality trait of mine to look at things neutrally and remove myself from the equation, you make better decisions that way in life for certain matters, and I've found that works well for me.

Now, the question comes, do you trust me to do that?

That's what this poll is for.

Thanks for the support thus far guys :)

Sorry Spyro... that statement looks a bit biased and
defensive to me...
You could have made your point without adding that..
and I would have probably not posted this...

Either be a Mod or Advertise for your business...
