Solid Sterling 445nm

So good news - I finally got the new diode into the host and it seems to be working even though I don't actually have a permanent fit - I just pressed it in REALLY hard (diameter of the inside had shrunk due to hardened thermal adhesive).

It seems that the thermal contact isn't as good, and the diode isn't as efficient, but I am still getting nearly 2.5W out of it from a cold start.

Thanks Wolfman29 for doing this build and posting your (fantastic) results. This answers/confirms some questions I had in regards to the use of silver as heatsink, not to mention host! Beautiful craftsmanship...you'll be passing this one down to your kids one day.

And someday I too would certainly like to build something like this. A pen-size yet powerful pointer = GRAIL!

Thanks :D I actually just sent a PM to Stridast seeing if he would want to do another host for me for another build :D

What else can one say besides, WOOOOOOW!!!
Excuse me, gotta go wipe the drool off my chin, lol.
Nice work to everyone, all around :-). rob

I dont know how I missed this thread until tonight but this laser is awesome Wolfman! Looks like something the elves made from LOTR if they were cool enough to use lasers in middle earth :p Great job man!

That was the hope! :D

I've read in some ancient scriptures before that you can turn the eyes of a wizard bright blue if you stab him in the torso with a silver laser like yours & turn it on while he's screaming. Sadly though, you can also reverse time if you dont remove the laser after a few minutes or if he passes out

That may not be necessary but it sure is freaking cool! And I would love to see a Titanium out gold host.one day

Haha. Titanium would be no good, and there are already lots of them out there - it has poor thermal conductivity. And gold also has poor thermal conductivity. =p

Well then ignore everything I just said. But whats next? Lead? Potassium? Sodium?

Haha. Lead = poisonous XD Potassium, sodium? VERY dangerous alkali metals! ^_^

Diamond has a heat transfer coefficient five times better than copper.
I love to see a diamond host. Don't forget to put on the goggles because laser will be blindingly bright. :)

Diamond Materials - Thermal Properties of CVD Diamond

I have seen a video of a person holding a industrial diamond disc and it slices though ice because the heat from the hand was enough to melt the ice.
