Howdy All Well I just finished this one and had to share :D

This is a Direct Press copper heat sink for the RL-2088 host.
It weighs in at a heavy weight of 2.5 pounds of copper now
that should cool just about any laser diode for a long time :D

Just weighed in at the post office so it's official any one want
to guess the weight with 3ea 18650 cells inside

This one had to have a long diode press to reach the LD.

There is room in the cavity for two V5 drives and they
can be heat sunk to the internal walls if necessary.

Enjoy ;)

Well here's how it started out, a small little copper
mine in the country side.

Then we start removing copper till we get to the heat sink inside ;)

And try not to break any thing, especially drill bit's cuz they be hard to get outa the copper :cryyy:

And there needs to be a place for power to get in. Notice I've changed lathes, I wore the red one out :cryyy:

And a way to get the Laser Diode in there so I made it a long diode press.

Let's see how it fits, I thinks it needs more machining.

Until it looks more like this.

Or even like this.

Better yet like this one :eg:

For me this one is about time not power, I ran this M-140 diode at 1000ma for 15 min straight and still could only feel a
very slight warmth to the HS, I think it can very easily be continuous duty at 1000ma input power.

Thanks for looking ;)

If you think you need one of these please contact me, I will be
most happy to make you one, right after I finish a couple WFTM builds ;)

Man that's a big chunk of copper for that boat anchor! :) (jk)

The weight of that thing must feel really cool. :gj:

Might want to put a clear coat on the face to keep it from tarnishing if you haven't already done so...

Well, if I didn't say it outright...this one was built for me! I can't wait to get it in my grubby hands...Jeff has been a pleasure to do business with too.

I plan to run it with an LM1084 DDL and use the stock battery holder (x3 18650) and rewire it to run parallel cells and replace the 3 18650's with x6 18350's to get a nominal 7.4v. I also just purchased half of an M140 and will pick the most efficient diode of the lot and put it in this host. Someday I will do a review of the finished product.

Thanks again Jeff! It looks fantastic, I am sure it will be all the more incredible in person. I love the focus adapter too, very tough looking. This was an expensive project but worth every cent IMHO...

Thanks Jim it was a while in the making and it seemed like any thing that could go wrong did go wrong, the worst of it was having my lathe break during the making of it.
I had anticipated the lathe's demise as I have put a lot of hours on it so I had made the purchase of a new one about 8 months ago when I first thought it was going.

Now I had to make every thing line up on the new lathe, it's a good thing I only had pilot holes drilled through that allowed me to make the holes on center through the piece with the new lathe.

As you can see we got it done and it works just fine :D

Very very nice build. I'm not normally a fan of larger builds, but this one is certainly an exception.

So... how about it... what's the total weight with three 18650's in there?:p

 EPIC.

the aluminum focus adapter on the copper heatsink is so choice!

My guess is its 1100 odd grams?

:gj: Jeff!
