RL-2088 Copper Mine

It's rather amazing how fast copper really tarnishes, while I'm cutting it it's almost a pink color
and within minutes it has turned to what we all know as bright copper color.

Yes the acid in our skin oils will tarnish copper faster, take a nice flat piece and sand it clean
with some 600 paper or polish it clean then put your thumb print on it and stick it in your sock
drawer for a month or two and then go look at it.
Your thumb print will be etched into the surface forever

That finish wouldn't last long. Without protection it will become dull within months. And fingerprints will make it worse because it will react to copper.

Nice piece of work  . I have started my first real build some days ago, a 405
and I have two 445 lined up after that.

I look and learn, just decided to make my own focus ring after having seen yours

Well thank you for the kind words I am flattered
My first build was a PHR 405 and it was a lot of fun and I still have it :D

Have fun and be Safe ;)

Jeff;

That is beautiful work.

I love a continuous-duty laser.

I am currently building a clone RL-2088 flashlight,

with a Phlatlight white LED running at ~5 amps.

That's what I'm talking about !! Nice work man!

This winter i finally started, and finished my Stingray -3 "head" which was similar front idea as far as modding the front of a flash light. I guess i'll kick myself in a butt and finally post a review. Quite a lot of work.

Cheers!

everytime i see this laser i want it moar :p

but heck my bank account doesn't let me lol

about the copper when you polish it and put a clear coating on it you should be fine  and if you want to make this piece of copper unique, do what flamin said put your fingerprint on it let it set for two months and then clear coat it lol.

greetings,,

Brilliant pictures. That much copper is overkill, the entire rig can't be dropping more than 5-10 watts. It's not going to hurt anything however.

My retina quivers at the thought of >1 watt at that freq. You'd need to wear arc welding glasses to use that laser, even casually.

Pointer look beautiful though.

I"m not sure if it's overkill but that much copper can kill

"Welding glasses" are unproven against visible light lasers.

They would offer some limited protection from specular reflections, but in the event of a direct hit or reflection... might actually do more harm than good.

 maybe he didn't mean literally I have no idea...

I think there is a language thing here for one.
