Good explanation, Goninanbl00d. :gj:You surely know a lot more about these companies than others. I seem to have discussed something like this long before.
Actually, Scitower is more renown than Viacho in nearly every product field and is a much more vesatitle laser manufacturer who mainly works with the government, universities and the military. DPSS lab lasers are their strong point. Mr. Li, the manager of Scitower was the core optical engineer in Fengyuan company in Zhejiang province ten years ago when Cni was just second. After Fengyuan company was sold(The Photop(
Photop Technologies, Inc.) was also sold a few times), the manager Mr Li founded Scitower which rose very quickly since 2003 0r 2004 because most of the engineers working there were from the Northwest University and Xi"an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics (XIOPM), one of the biggest research organizations in Northwest China of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The same is also true for Cni, who depends on all the technical support from Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. It seems that CNI has done a far greater job in media exposure.
I had a few experiences with Scitower before I knew about jetlasers. When I worked for Taiwan company last year, I contacted them for laser show systems installing on the nightclubs and they provided the project program, including the main engineers' list, some of whom were from jieteguangdian(the jetlasers), and later i knew most engineers in Scitower were excellent optical engineers while jiete has a few professional mechanical engineers and installation personnel. I believe they are just partners. I bought the 1w 808nm from scitower and it's very similar to the called 2009 version at jetlasers, while the 300mw red laser PL-C proves this well. But I was kinda confused when I only saw other two updated version of PL-C at jetlaser website.
Now I think they're nearly sister companies. As early as the March this year, the staff working at Scitower has already told members in flashlight forum (shoudian.com) that they would release titanium lasers and portable rgb lasers soon(they are TOO SLOW..portable RGB are still not arrived yet!). I called to inquire about the portable RGB and the ti lasers; they told me the drawings were still revised by the mechanical engineers in jieteguangdian(jetlasers), while the features of Mono-Chip operation would be added in the portable RGB or even full color lasers. It's said that the manager(or the founder) of jetlasers, Mr. john Wong, is an excellent mechanical engineers who helped Scitower complete many governmental projects undertaken by Scitower.
I guess they're just partners. According to my experiences with Chinese laser companies before i bought my laser pointers, it was often that a few small companies spoke endless words against their competitors. No good. Scitower was one of the exceptions and I was very impressed with their customer support, esp. the Ms Wan. She talked(only in Chinese) like an engineer herself! I prefer cni and scitower. Less worries dealing with them.
Believe me, a lot of so-called laser manufacturers don't have any labs or good facilities. It's not that bad if money is the only impetus but they are incapable of QC-ing the cheap lasers they made. I believe most members in this forum can make a better laser maker than them if you live in China. No doubt their distributors live restlessly upon every order.
I don't know if jetlasers has many top optical engineers but they at least design good lasers and even provide freebies for review. This is very recommendable. Hope Gray could get more review lasers for us, especially the new titanium lasers. I bet few people would rush to Scitower if you provide titanim lasers at good price.
