Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

Wow, these are simply amazing. Good job guys! I hope green diodes will stay in this wavelength. It looks much nicer then 532m, imo. Can't wait for these/other green diodes to hit the market en masse!

I'm very excited to finally see one of these laser diodes in action. It's a lovely color, as can be clearly seen in the pictures. Hope to add one of these to my laser collection eventually.

I also just realized that i've been mistaken about package designations too. the 5.6mm diodes are actually TO-56, not TO-18 like I thought they were. Though TO-18 package diodes do exist, but they're different dimensions.

I think Ben and myself figured this out the hard way recently. We both designed drivers to direct-mount on TO-18 packages, and neither actually fit the pin spacing.

We've also now remedied the issue by creating custom Eagle parts, but, lol, I think we've still been referring to them as TO-18 diodes. Thanks for the clarification :)

That explains a lot! Lol :)

You know, rhd, you should have made a DGH-N3 and put it up in BST for auction - highest bidder by the end of the week gets it :p You would make a killing!

I've spoken to Aryntha and am waiting and willing to donate to anyones 'Murder Fund' if they want to test these.

I'm glad that RHD and Aryntha jumped on these before me. They have the knowledge to do far more with them than just go 'nana na na na':na:

Arythna,

I've got a cloudy overcast tonight. Please send some of the photons into the sky via a northeastern direction so I can see the beam profile on the clouds overhead. I'll measure the dot so we can be sure about that divergence. ;)

8v and 3% efficiency. It's gonna need some good heatsinking and burn through batteries pretty quick. Would make a good labby.

It's been a while fella's, great to see the dedication that still exists here in bringing these diodes into the realm of the hobbiest.

Well done to everyone involved, you should be very proud of yourselves:)

Looking forward to getting one of these in the future perhaps.

Cheers

Three pages and counting for the responses...looks like a popular choice of product.
Hope the manufacturer and supplier(s) are taking note.
If just this forum is showing this much interest imagine the general public mass market possibilities.
And keeping them as they are would be a sort of built in safety system too. Limit the time and power of the products in the hands of, uh, the general public, for lack of a better or less derogatory reference.

Did you take pictures of the diodes before you put them in?

Or was the company name on the diode, hence no pictures were posted.
