Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

I haven't because it boils down to time, which I haven't had much of in a while. Plus i'm in the middle of 9 laser builds at the moment that I need to finish ASAP, of which i've only managed to get 3 of done so far.

And Steve.. Heh I only wish these were that cheap. But I can't really say much on pricing other than that these are considerably more than that per mW.

And Silvershot. It's actually mostly due to actual diode manufacturers not really wanting anything to do with 'pointers' period. Too much liability for them. That's one of the reasons prices to 'individuals' for low quantities is ridiculously high.

Such a familiar song.. I sing it perpetually. It's been some combination of willpower and blind luck that I've been able to get anything hobby related done.. and this isn't even my only hobby.

Great colors for a diode laser. I can hardly wait to get my hands on these diodes.
Any news on availability ? We need also 3.8mm modules.

I *did* measure twice on the divergence. It blew me away, but it's so low that I want to measure *again*, and will do that when I can find more than 40ft of space to reliably calculate from.

But, yeah, really, even at 40ft, it was "like that". I had a "this can't be right" moment and did double check.

Just get a mirror at like 30 feet or so. It should give you a rough approximation if your numbers aren't anywhere near being right or if they are.

On the module front - about 3 weeks ago I submitted an order for some custom 3.8mm CNC'd aluminum Aixiz-compatible modules.

They should be here sometime around 2 weeks from now. The intention is actually largely to facilitate the use of blue single-mode diodes, but they'll be available for anyone wanting to do anything with them.

Speaking of the 450 single modes. AVNET finally replied with a quote for qty:10 osram PL450 80mW diodes... Heh. $313 each. I think i'll stick with the $60 50mW PLT4NSB's that are currently available.

I also just realized that i've been mistaken about package designations too. the 5.6mm diodes are actually TO-56, not TO-18 like I thought they were. Though TO-18 package diodes do exist, but they're different dimensions.

I've got my $60 PLT4NSB "50mW" diode running, without any issue, at 150mW. It is however, definitely on the low-end of the wavelength range. I actually perceived some of the violet in it.

I think Ben and myself figured this out the hard way recently. We both designed drivers to direct-mount on TO-18 packages, and neither actually fit the pin spacing.

We've also now remedied the issue by creating custom Eagle parts, but, lol, I think we've still been referring to them as TO-18 diodes. Thanks for the clarification :)

The 3 450nm single modes i've checked so far have all been 445-446nm on the spectrometer. I also haven't forgot about your springs, just been busy. They're in a baggie at home. You said 50 right?

And here's the correct dimensions of TO-56, btw.

I just need to find the dimensions of TO-38's now so I can make a heatsink and get it to Aryntha.

A lovely shade of Irish Green !
Maybe by the time they are cheap enough I will have the buck$ to spare !

Excellent job to you both for the post.
:gj:

I've just bought 10,000 of these.

Edit: The devils in my post count!!

Awesome thread, hope to see these flooding the markets soon. Now we need some cheap yellows and we'll be good! :D
