Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

i think bw is in over his head. we believed him when the first bad experience with him showed up, and even the second. now we are on the 4th bad experience in less than 2 months.

bw. not all of your customers are wrong. take responsibility.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I have to say I agree 110% with every thing you just said here Jerry.
The money was good why shouldn't the laser have been,
Yea try shaking it, that works like a hole in the head
Why would a seller ever tell the buyer to shake it.

I totally disagree with this...that is NOT the way it usually works...
If you want to go into business then you have to suck it up
sometimes....

Why should the buyer bear all the burden when the money he
sent for the item was not defective....

BW seems to want to make more money off the Laser he sold
that I believe was badly assembled.... Lousy soldering....No heat
shrink... loose fitting parts....

Why would the buyer open it if it worked correctly... From what
I understand the buyer was even told by BW to try to get it
working...

The way it should be done is that the Laser should be sent
back to the Seller at the Buyer's cost and it should be repaired/
assembled correctly and sent back at the Sellers expense..

After all... the other halve of the transaction ( the $$$) was
not found to be defective....

The first part of this whole thing that bothers me is that I
have yet to see any clear pics of the Laser from the buyer....

And the second part of this is that this issue is not yet
resolved and the Seller has already Neg Repped the buyer.
That neg repping shows the contempt the seller has for the
buyer...

I would now not trust the seller with my paid for and defective
Laser... It may come back even in even worse shape...

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Well I am glad you guys can see my side of this. I will tell you why I have no pics though, the whole story.
After finding the problem was just the wires not being soldered, I asked my father if this was something we could fix. I knew we had a soldering iron at home at one point, but I guess we sold it. He said he could solder it at work two days later (he had the next day off). So I sent it with him that day, and I guess he forgot to do it. Then I went to the office to him while still on summer holidays. He said that the wires were pretty small for his palsied hands (only mild but it still would be a hassle). He said a co-worker named Jesse could do it the next day. Since he is busy at work I guess he forgot to get that done and I still have it left there. I asked him to bring it home yesterday, but he wasn't going into the office, he was out on field work. Today I asked him to bring it back in the morning before he left, but he forgot again (not high on his priority list I guess). He told me to text him while he's at the office tomorrow and he should remember. If pics are necessary (probably will be, as bwhollen still isn't offering a fair deal) They will likely be up tomorrow. Also my good DSLR is at my school for an art photography project. We took the last photos today, and transfer them to computers tomorrow. I should be able to bring it back tomorrow.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Make sure to take lots of pictures  better to many than two few. If I was paying for an assembled laser, I would expect heat sink over the diode pins.

If this is the 4th complaint then thats pretty bad:(
Again if your going to sell lasers or laser kits. You need to take time and have pride in your work. You need to take care of maters in privet instead of forcing your customers to come to the forum looking for resolution.

I can't believe this public outing of his bad practices isn't leading him to just work things out, just come to a reasonable outcome. I said I'd be willing to pay shipping there, but no more than that.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I've sold lasers that haven't worked when they've arrived. I have a laser return right now that I'm waiting for in the mail. It happens.

You never know for sure what has happened. Did something during in transit? Did I do a poor job of packing it? Did customs do a poor job of re-packing it? Did customs perhaps even damage it during inspection? Did the buyer do something stupid and damage it after receipt? Did temperature and humidity issues affect the diode life? Did the diode hit the end of its life prematurely? Did I do a $#!% job and build a bad laser? Was I somehow careless?

Again, you never know for sure what has happened. If a laser has been opened or tampered with in ANY way, then all bets are off. But otherwise, your only option is to suck it up, pay for their return shipping, replace it, and pay to return the replacement back. It doesn't matter what you, as a seller, *think* happened. You protect your reputation, and make sure the buyer is happy. If you can't keep enough parts on hand to repair or replace an item, and you don't have enough wiggle room on your credit card to send over a Paypal refund if it becomes necessary, then you have no business withdrawing a buyer's payment from your Paypal account until you know the item has arrived, in working condition.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone, can be excused for a bad product, even 4 bad products, if it was an honest mistake that they rectify at no cost to the buyer.

Even that position is difficult to uphold as a seller, especially if the buyer claims that the product was DOA despite your inspections before shipping it out.

Its not very likely, but it IS possible that customs opened the package to inspect it, and did something like disassemble the product to see what is inside it. Doing that could cause wires to tangle creating a short, or other problems that are difficult to imagine.

The problem is always that its ones word againt the others - if the customer maintains it arrived defective and the seller maintains it was shipped out in working condition, the only thing you can both agree on is that it must have happened in transit.

European legislation is quite explicit in that - the seller is responsible for the state of the product until the buyer receives it at his doorstep. If the mailman drops it in the puddle on the way, this issue must be resolved between seller and postal company since it is the seller that hired the postal service, and should have chosen a reliable shipping option.

^^^ you have a good point about perhaps Customs
unscrewing it looking perhaps for contraband...

It would still be the sellers responsibility to correct
the situation since the buyer received a defective
Laser..

If the buyer claims that the product was DOA, and you receive it back and realize that the pot has been twisted off, or a wire has been soldered from the battery spring directly to the diode, or any one of a number of other obvious "kipkay-esque" YouTube "hacks" have been attempted - then as I said previously, all bets are off.

Tampering might be a vague term. I suppose customs might do something during inspection that could resemble tampering, but that wasn't really what I had in mind. The type of tampering that would, in my mind, disqualify the buyer from any sympathy (or help) on my end, would have to be a pretty obvious blatant attempt to screw with the guts of a laser.

Otherwise, I pretty much feel like it's always on the seller to make the situation right.

I guess now that more people think he should be more reliable and reasonable, he has stopped checking/replying to this thread or my PM's.

I won't say never buy from bwhollen, as he may become more mature and may learn to make a more durable and effective product. Maybe some day he will be a much more reasonable seller. As of right now though, I wouldn't trust him.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

@rpalo... Im pretty sure the 4th but at least the third.

At upper level... The attitude will turn against you if you dont post better pix soon. It comes off as shady.

I am very sorry, I do have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to post pictures.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Im sorry upperlevel that I have a school, a social life, and sports, and cant reply to your pms as if its an IM. Everyone here has a ton of different opinions and I stick by what I have offered. I offer NO warranty on any laser I sell, especially if it was taken apart. I NEVER instructed the buyer to take the laser apart to "Check it out". I offered to fix it at his expense (shipping) as I doubt the laser diode is fried, and may be just a solder fix. I have sold A LOT of lasers here and other places and I guess I have had a very unlucky run, but have resolved all other issues as fast as possible. In any case, I will continue to sell lasers here but as KITS only. This laser was tested in full before shipment so may have gotten an issue during shipment, or by the buyer, but in any case he OPENED it which voids all warranty. I have offered to fix it, but he still declines. I don't know what else I can do.
