Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

And the other thing, if you actually have an LPM, why do you describe them as 1.8W+ lasers if you have not actually metered them but own a meter? I mean if you have a meter right beside you it's nice to include an actual meter pic of the laser being sold, but thats my opinion

You know... that part has bugged me. I was under the impression that the approximations were due to not having an LPM, but if there are two on hand, why not offer the readings.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

this is something daguin told another member in a different thread. It holds true here and to ALL SELLERS

One CANNOT live off of the payment for a product not yet delivered

If one does, then if there is a problem, there is nothing left to fall back on or pay for the refunds and/or customer service
We are seeing the same problem with bhwollen right now. :(

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I once worked for a corporation ( will remain nameless ), that had it down to a formula. They claim that it takes SEVEN positive experiences to offset just ONE negative one. Hmmm, they may have been on to something.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

If you make 10% profit then its 10 to 1....;)

Sorry for the threadjack... but 10% is a very low margin... for those that sell lasers as a business on here, the margin is quite a bit higher. Of course it's impossible to calculate how much some people value their time vs others.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

This transaction is beginning to make LPF look bad.
It looks like your out to just make a quick buck, and thats all you care about..

The soldering looks questionable, no shrink-wrapping. The buyer claims it was DOA. Only shaking it or holding it a certain way would the laser work.

Also this is the second time one of your sales have gone south, and you have no money to correct the issue...

Ben you have plenty of posts here on LPF, your rep seems to be ok. You also have a few supporters who like you. However you may loose all that if you don't correct this issue.

You really should step up and fix this no mater what it takes. Even if the diode is fried, and it was his fault for opening it. I only say this because it really does not look like a very professional job. Plus this has happened before with your lasers not working.

Just wondering what he paid for this laser? $120,$200,$300?. What was was your cost?
I'm sure you can afford the price of a 445 diode and still break even.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I really shouldn't get involved in this thread, but the entire thread is a such a mess I can't keep my mouth shut.

Ben this is the 4th complaint, while you may have resolved the other ones, this is a big red flag at this point for anything you are going to try to sell. I ignored the first one and even defended you at one point even though I haven't had any direct dealings with you.

As far as I'm concerned both you and the OP are responsible for the broken laser. Both the photos and your confirmation that you didn't insulate the connections to the diode confirm that you at the very least were asking for trouble. If you leave any easy way for an end user to break something, they will find a way. Major fault.

If the OP is being truthful, the module was lose from the very start. I'm taking a wild leap here and would imagine that during focusing he twisted the wires to the breaking point. In addition the OP admits that he took apart the laser but yet he doesn't even know enough about lasers to be able to name any of the parts. Major fault.

Ben, you could have saved yourself a lot of grief, if you had mentioned the money issues from the very start. I'm not saying that's a good enough excuse for all of this, mind you, but I understand that better then you demanding the OP pay for shipping and repairs.

For the record though, I really wish folks would quit using the young age = poor judgement argument. I know plenty of folks that are much older and make the same poor decisions on a daily basis, both in their personal and professional lives. I'm not pointing out any single person here.

I'm sure I should just have kept my mouth shut and I'm certain I'm coming off as a grummy $ss and will catch neg rep for this post, but I'm really not trying to piss anyone off here, but there just seems like plenty of blame to go around.

To the person who was asking how much I paid, I think it was 180. Could have been 160 plus 20 shipping (took 20 for shipping even though he now says it's is 11). The thread and my early PM's were deleted when my account vanished in that short downtime two days after I joined.

Anyway. I know I should not have opened the laser. I am sorry, I am used to electronics products (including chinese lasers) that would not fall apart and break and void warranty if I unscrewed a part. Obviously there are some exceptions to that like xbox's or lava lamps, but both of those offer very good warranty if you don't open the product.

I am 17, I am not using my age to act like some kind of damsel in distress or to make it seem like I was just doing what children do and breaking things. I understand that my word AS a 17 year old and AS a person very inexperienced with lasers is a word that may be hard for you to take seriously.

I made a mistake by opening the lasers. I'm not flaming, but just because I'm the kid who works and earns money I have to pay for this product to be brought to working condition when it was sold as in working condition?

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

^^^As others have already said, plenty of blame here to go around, for both you and Ben.

Bottom line is, he should have gotten you an out of the box working laser in the first place.

You should not have opened it in any way, once you realized it was broken.

Leave it at that.

Ideal solution imho would be for a middleman to take a look at the laser to determine the problem, and what is needed to fix it. The cost of repairs and shipping should be split 50/50 by the two of you.

The fact that both you are still young is simply not helping matters since neither of you have had too much business experience and the frustrations that come with it. It isn't a negative in itself though.

My $0.02

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Do I do it that often?

I need to stop doing that... ><

-Trevor

At least the sixth time that I can recall, the second or third with me.

I don't mind though, with me there is often a disconnect between the sub-vocalized voice in my head and my fingers. Or so it seems. Besides, I enjoy laughing, even at my own expense:p:tinfoil:

Huh. I do FTFY's a lot, but mostly joking. xD

Oh well. Happy to give you a laugh I guess? :p
