That was awsome! Haha... does it make me a bad person if i'm glad that the original came underpowered because it meant i got to read details of this project?

Not at all sir, not at all :)

I wish I could find the original for sale missing it's diode and driver entirely ;)

It looks like it would be exactly the same - yep. I really wanted the red colour, to differentiate my RED from all the greens and blues I have laying around.

This is a great little project! Good job! It may even be worth messaging john from priceangels to see if he has any DOA returns or defective units he would like to sell for cheap. Who knows maybe he could even get the host alone like rayfoss does with those green hosts.

I'm happy you can list Priceangels in the same place with DX. I am always trying my best to improve my company, and wish one day we can be as large as Dealextreme.

thanks!

For everyone's info -

The actual pointer used in this project was actually out-of-stock when I ordered it (along with another laser) from PriceAngels. They were good about it - offered me the option of getting something else, or getting a refund. Before choosing either, this pointer came back in stock, and they shipped it out to me.

Good customer service. On par with DX (which I consider good). Usually not more than 48 hours between replies on the support ticket. I actually appreciated the fact that they shipped the 1/2 of my order that was available, when it was available, instead of waiting to ship everything together. Again, this is what DX usually does, and I like the fact that PA did so also.

Anyway, just a little addendum to my review. The whole experience dealing with PriceAngels was great. No complaints.

it's my greatest happiness to receive praise from my customers. I don't care about how much money I can earn from a order, I don't care about how much more I can earn, I just want to do my best to satisfy all my friends from LPF, all my customers.

If one day, I and my company have made some mistake and hurt you, wish you can tell me and I will do all I can to give you a reasonable solution.

Thanks! (I am :))

At some point this summer, I'm going to do a sequel / follow-up / "re-pimping" ;)

LPC-826, using a more capable boost drive, set to 650mA. I'm hoping to see a target of 400mW :)

i didnt read the whole thread but im quite interested in the 500mW green laser. but when i read 300mW =161mW tested, i feel that i cant buy it anymore.

a tip i would like to give u is: dont write on your website that the output is 300mW when u tested it urself and manage to get 161mW. that would be clearly a 150mW unit! not more not less. if you would keep REAL specs on your site ur reputation will grow so fast and u will earn so much more money.... doesnt matter if you sell less mW for more money as other sites since people know other sites lie about their specs and people then know - if they buy from you they get atleast the mW they buy but mostly even over spec.
that would be a huge magnet for real laser interested people.

i really dont understand why every chineese website lies about their specs... must be some cultural thing...

u will never see a laser underspec from a german company or other europeans.

thats the reason why the whole world dislike things from china. be one of the first who go for quality! others will follow since they will see that u steal all their customers with quality (atleast quality specs).

if somebody think about to buy such an expensive laser - they want quality. they dont care about quantity. this will always be the case. a laser buyer will never care about lied specs never. the exact opposit will happen to a company that lies about specs - the word will spread and the company will get a bad reputation and not sell near as much as they could.

take that advice, and u will be a happy man at the end of the day.

Didn't read the whole thread, or didn't read any of the thread?

Or, alternatively, you could go buy from Optotronics, Nova, or even Rayfoss or O-like. You DO get what you pay for.

Not true. All the Chinese websites that don't specialise in lasers list their specs incorrectly. This is because they use the specs stated by the supplier and don't have enough reason to buy a power meter as lasers only make up a small quantity of what they sell, and then they'd have to get a flashlight power meter, a knife-sharpness meter and an everything-else-they-sell meter.

u will never see a laser underspec from a german company or other europeans.

Personally, i love things from China. Stuff you never knew you needed is on these sites and they're just a click away at a fraction of what they'd cost were you to buy them in the real world (using that silly obselete concept called "coins") and with free shipping. As long as you don't mind waiting a while, you're all set.

Would anyone else call that part bordering on racism?

Untrue. The majority of buyers of lasers from PA are going to be unenlightened, not interested in this comparison game that we all play and are just looking for something to dick around with, shine into the sky, hit clouds with, maybe use to light some matches and impress their friends with. Specs are irrelevant for such people, as long as it's brighter than their 5mW red and can light a match.

take that advice, and u will be a happy man at the end of the day.

And you take this advice: Read around the forum before posting, read the thread before posting, master the art of typing your words out properly before posting and then finally, THINK before posting. And you too can be a happy man at the end of the day.
