PHR-803T for about $20

I ordered 4 of these last week and they are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I am building a lab system with one of them. I've been working on a current adjustable and voltage adjustable power supply and it works pretty good so I think I'm going to build a series of laser heads running various diodes using a standardized connector. Right now I would have to manually set the current and voltage but I was thinking it might be neat to build a little intelligence into the laser heads and power supply. Using an unused line in the connector I could have the laser head identify itself and the power supply could set the outputs accordingly.

Does any kind soul here want to buy one or two extra of these and then ship them to me up here in Canada if I cover the costs? The cheapest shipping option they seem to offer for me is $52 !!!! For just shipping! I know you can ship stuff here much cheaper using plain old USPS ground (witch they don't offer to me). I am not in a rush but just cannot justify over twice the cost in shipping alone.

Heck if you know what your doing just rip the sleds out and ship them - that would be even cheaper still!

/me wants some 405nm blue

*** Edit - Thank you to all of the members that have offered to supply my with some units. I have made arrangments with a member and he will be sending me a few shortly. It's nice to find a forum that has such helpfull and willing people in it!

Eat your cake and have it too: Carefully pry the diode off the sled and cut the leads to it. You then have a perfectly good DVD player a GREAT cd rom/ CDA player that is still 100% usable in a computer AS A DRIVE :D

How is it gonna be a DVD player if it has no diode?

The problem us the hardware key for hd-dvd on this drive has been revoked. So the hd-dvd capability of it is kind of academic unless you are playing back home made HD-DVD discs or enjoy no feature cracked movies :(

So go ahead and rip the violet hd-dvd laser diode out for your 'burner' and use the rest as a DVD and CD drive :D

BTW these make a truely awsome ripping drive for CD's!!!

How are all the drives coming out? Are they all still the 803T's?
I opened up two today, both PHR-803T. I'm driving one at 82mA and it sure beats those old PS3 Blu-rays.
