Odds are they have either phr or or 8011 heads with blue diodes. as i found out you can remove the blue diode in about 45 seconds and still have a perfectly usable normal cd & dvd drive. The good part is that it's BEST offer! The only issue i see is importing them in the states, but daaaaaaammmmm!THAT'S A CRAZY DEAL! Anyway i asked the fellow a few questions to determine the health and offer ballpark. If i get the right answers to the questions i'll probably end up buying a lot of 'em I'll be buying roughly 250 of them for a business venture- for sure i'll NEVER use all 500 of 'em- if anyone wants in on a group buy i'll host it!

Harvest tons of the 405nm diodes, then resell the drives as DVD/CD-ROM only for like $10

I did get the ones with the labels to read both regular dvd's and home made. The read/rip speed for cd's is INSANE. I got a box without labels that i haven't tested yet.
If you ripped the heads out, don't pitch the boards from 'em- they have VERY NICE smd MOSFETS that can be used for diy boster mods.
Just clip away at the brittle heatsink and you'll eventually free the diode.sk8er4514 said:whats the easiest way to get these diodes out of their original heat sink?
I've been working on one for about an hour and its still stuck in there. any help is appreciated!
