I will be back soon to share some great stuff about these-but will say this-these are a terrific bargain , less than 50% of what they USED to cost and there are several ways to use them that makes MORE sense than what Jose posted about buying to harvest diodes- BBL

Uniphase 1145P 632.8nm 21mW HeNe. Made May of 2009

This is a trusted seller that abides by their return policy. You just must pay return shipping.

Ignore the title of the listing, you will not get 35mW. These are 21mW (rated) Uniphase tubes, and are as good as it gets with Uniphase. Only thing higher is the 2145, rated 22.5mW.

However, now for the down side. Powering it. These require fairly high KV only available in specially made PSUs for this tube. I've seen these on ebay for about $150-200, and I plan to buy the next cheap one I find (FYI). They require 4.1KVDC @ 6.5mA. The updated voltage as of Uniphase's website (post 2011) says 3.8KV. So still, only the prescribed PSU for these really apply.

So, if you're willing to get the PSU for it, here you go, for $200, going soon.

I ammmmm baaackk :D I've "bean" doing more things with lasers but more work related than fun :scowl: I "bean" trying to get more active here but not enough time. I see a lot a new toys around here, as a matter of fact I just turn on my ~3W 445 laser over the weekend... more to come on that one... PMs on their way to you my friend!

That is NOT a 75mW, in any world. It's an equivalent to the MG-928, it is a 35mW rated tube. Please correct your post.

There are NO 75mW HeNes available commercially without custom ordering them, and being multimode. Even the SP-125A's are only 50mW.

That being said, I am still looking to get it if it stays low. It requires a special PSU only for the MG 927/928's. 5.1KV @ 8mA. Either way, I plan to get it and test it and return if it doesn't work.

As far as the first (10pc) lot, I am going to be watching that one very close. I can use most of those, and if not, will sell some off. Some good tubes however are reported to have loose glass inside the tubes, so keep that in mind.

In the last picture it says max 75mW. Not that it will do it even when it was new:p

Then it would be best to put it's actual rating. Even if it says 75mW, it means nothing if that's not the real rating. I have a green pen that says <5000mW, so equivalent to 5000mW max. Means nothing if it will only do 10 ;)

Thus the reason I remained quiet. :whistle:

A 125 or a 127 sidearm HeNe may push 40+. But per sam, there isn't anything out there that is hard sealed, greater than 35mw spec.

Softsealed there are a few, but most are toast - 50mw is about the max, and if it is outputting you will pay an arm and a leg for it, even though it could already have 10,000 hours on it

Finally, if you do get a soft seal, you better run it religiously on a schedule in order to keep it good, just like some of the Argons and Kryptons.

Personally, i'm not that contentious. So just a heads up if you are looking for a big HeNe don't buy a softsealed unless it is currently working. Otherwise you are probably wasting your cash.

Only exception is if the power supply is bad and the tube may still be good.

OK I'm sure there probably is one, but the last post obviously wasn't directed at you.

I've spent A LOT of time looking and researching big HeNes, as I know you have.

Lot's of people are disappointed when you tell them the big ones are only 35 or so mw.

But a 35 mw HeNe is one of the best beams you'll ever see. It's a PERFECT circle and it is visible.

Right, I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. These are very few and far between.

My advice with these is the same as with HeCd's. Do not buy unless you see proof of them working, and are willing to keep them working.

As Icecruncher stated, these are not your rinkidink 5mW tubes that can sit in a closet for a decade, and still fire. These take care to keep them in condition, and in alignment.

Though if you are willing to search, and dig through hundreds of "bad" or unknown listings, you may get lucky as did the gentleman above.

Also, with those 20, and 35mW rated tubes, you must keep in mind the power requirements. Unlike their <10mW counterparts, these require very high powers not found in most power supplies. These require PSU's specially made for the tube, and if they have the tube and supply, they probably know that. So expect to pay $$$, and hope to get lucky.

And when I say only, I am speaking relatively. Only 35mW compared to 75mW. However, I saw Icecruncher's 127 at SELEM, and it was spectacular. It was everything I thought a 35mW HeNe would be, and more. When I saw the beam shooting into the hallway, I immediately underwent a "shiny ball" maneuver, and bee-lined straight to it. Truly a stunning laser.

Chinese RG came in today. Glad I set my expectations low.

Initial impression? The dichro isn't even mounted with epoxy, it got to me rattling inside the projector ;) I took a little video review of it. It's a nice little trinket to produce some entertaining ambient light, but nothing to go nuts over.

Going to "supe" it up with some better diodes, and get something more visible in the beam department. Though that's a later project.

I'm can chime in and offer the Coherent 2140 and Melles Griot 05-LHP-928 are NOT copies of the Spectra Physics 127.

The SP-127 is a side-arm hard-sealed tube with removable and adjustable mirrors.
It's among the most beautiful HeNe lasers we can enjoy.

The 928s appear similar to most other soft-seal HeNe designs housed within a 1.75-inch diameter aluminum tube, and with fixed mirrors making alignment pretty impossible.

The fact this one is sold without PSU is dubious, at best. It may not lase at all, or lase at 3mW, for all we know. Both statistically probable.

If you're looking for lasers that don't lase, but seem as if they may, I have several I can sell you. Some more exotic than the one listed. :)
