I wonder if this means we'll start to see these more frequently in the wild. Won't that be nice.

And they're 5.6 too, which means they're different from the other diodes, hopefully this expansion to multiple companies means the technology is becoming more widely available and better known (and then cheaper and more available diodes)

5.6mm looks standard to me. You mean compared to the earlier direct green diodes which are 3.8mm.

And the question is: How much?
Lower than 2.000$?

The diode cost now $200 according an inside source. And will decrease to $20 at the end of the year :takeit:

Woah real emerald green laser diodes at $20 (eventually). Mmmmmmm

I am actually surprised by spec being such low power. Wasn't there information floating around that the green diode is 50mW+?

As for the 5.6mm package, I guess it's because they bundled the photodiode inside, instead of the early ones of 3.8mm.

this will fill a gap in my collection:beer:

That and a 500.8nm from CNI

And yes, I was referring to these being different from the 3.8's. Again, hopefully that means the technology is becoming more understood and tangible. I expect to see these commercially available by the end of the year. Which is sweet because I'll be able to start this hobby again around Jan/Feb of next year, so I hope to have a couple new diodes out for me to play with. Also, the 5.6 package is an awesome release for a couple current project ideas.

good luck getting your hands on one of those... you're talking 5-digit prices.

Yet at the same time their optical setup behaves much like a 589's.
