New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green **3/2011 batch is here!**

Re: I need a simple red module

Are you using it for point recognition or something like that? A red would probably work fine, though webcams will still "see" green better than other colors because of their Bayer filter. Often, though, the laser dot can be bright enough that it won't even look like "color"--just an overly bright spot on the wall, so you might want to do some filtering before-hand. That does, however, depend on how far away it is, etc.

I'd grab a cheapo red (even 5mW) and then work up from there. You can get a dirt-cheap module for $4 from Hightechdealz, free shipping too. Greens can be power-hungry and need to be in a sufficient heatsink. They're also quite a bit larger than a simple low-power red.

Thanks, yeah I've done filtering with a red laser before in a cheap pointer i broke. On my webcam the dot appears as a whitish spot with slight pinkish red hues on the edges, and becomes redder the farther away it gets.

I think I will end up gettin a cheap 5mw red again

What just happened? It says this is my thread but it's.... different now hahaha

*edit* it looks like 3 threads got combined..?

After taking a quick look, seems like it was actually 4 that were merged for some reason.
  • New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green
  • 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay
  • I need a simple red module
  • WTB: Anyone got an old 593.5nm/589nm they're done with?

Probably a mistake.. They aren't the same threads haha :wtf:

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave??

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Placed order July 27th. Still waiting on my 3 pointers! I've heard good things, so I hope they arrive tomorrow!

Swimminsurfer has been awesome in regard to getting back to emails in a timely manner.

Will write a review when my lasers arrive!

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Payment sent for 2. Thanks bud!

Swimminsurfer has SUPER fast responses and has been great to deal with. A+++

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Good guy all around. I may be picking a few more of these from you!

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I got a few friends who really want one for star pointing I may have to grab 3 more soon.

I was wondering what happened too. Reading through this thread again after the merge I though I accidentally hijacked your thread with a competitors product.:na:

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

i got mine yesterday! slight dimming problem, BRIGHT->diiiiim->brigHTENS. once on for 10s it seems to "warm up" and starts at BRIGHT right away. less dimming with fresh AAA's.

this is probably not as useful as a light meter reading, but i did measure the current/voltage while ON. I also bought one of those $9 405nm from ebay, looks about the same as far as power draw INTO the diode.

532nm
2.4v 250mA
2.6v 250-270mA

405nm
2.7v 230mA
2.9v 210mA

based on that power going INTO the diodes is

532nm 600-700mW
405nm 600-620mW

based on some mA->mW posts I am guessing these are ~20-30mW output (ref1, ref2).

light meter sounds like a really good next project for me:)

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Awesome I am probably going to get 3 more soon making 7 total. I work with about 100 engineers and many would love one for star pointing.
