New High Power Blu-ray Sled! - SF-AW210 Graph!

lasersbee said:
Hey Jay..
could it be a similar scenario as the Xbox sleds that had 2 different characteristic LDs in
them... Maybe they are mixing 6X with 8X type LDs just to stuff the sleds...
Or maybe you're just one lucky SOB that got a freak 6X... ;D ;D

Jerry

It is definitely possible that there could be two different diodes that might come out of the sled...

As you mentioned, we have seen this happen before. The one I got is completely different by comparing graphs.

Let's hope that Dave got two bad ones then. (sorry Dave)

What I mean is, since Dave just killed two at 375mA's, that maybe they were damaged from the guy that breaks the sleds with at hammer to get them to us. Because his graph showed much less power readings per mA's fed...

I don't know enough about these test results or anything, but my 'freak' one is definitely more in line with Daves 8X. Almost exactly the same current to power graph. Even the voltage is similar. I did not plot the voltage. But I measured 5.6 volts at 280mA's using a FlexDrive and a single 3.0 volt Lithium battery.

Maybe during the testing of different ones, even if you don't do a voltage plot, check the voltage at 280mA's...
spammer is such an ugly word for such a great store.

That word automatically shows up if you type the name of the store owner on LPF...

Good on you Greg for giving a plug here for your competition! I hope he finds out that you did that for him...
Jay
Hahahahaha!!!! I didn't realize that the H....O...... word was "spammer" substituted ! (DOH !) Naw - he's not really competition, NOBODY on here is, either...not really ! I don't compete with anyone else for sales - I ALWAYS plug this forum if anyone needs info - after I tell them to engage their B.S. filter, and ignore all the children, and crap - but I understand what you are saying :) I have NO issues with plugging someone who is carrying something I don't - maybe if someone on here cannot find something from sellers here, they can pop on over to my store, and peek around. Wow...I am kinda droning on and on here...anyways - I hope folks CAN get these, and that they work out well. I am simply satisfied with the PHR's....that is my fav diode ATM :)

I plan on using this diode in my RGV scanner with good heatsink and jayrobs lens...my question is how should i drive the diode in order to have a BRIGHT beam but still keep it safe...

and same question again but with 20xDVD and glass lens

Thanks,
-Brooks

i forgot to post this but i took this last night through my ml-7's b/c i noticed the dot looked weird... the dot was actually a round circle...

I am sure that there is a logical reason for it, but how is it possible. I guess I cant picture it in my mind.

that was a pic of the labby beam on the wall. i didnt even notice it until i was walking out of the bathroom on the way to the bedroom. the diode was in a brand new aixiz module so it wasnt anything on the lens..

no motors or mirrors involved...just the dot on the wall. thats why i had to use me safety glasses to capture it otherwise it just showed up as a bright dot.

Looks like maybe the camera moved and caused a 'trail' exposure of the dot...

At this point, I think you may want to start out at 160mA's and just test what power you get with AixiZ acrylic to compare with the graphs...

If it's around 160mW's or more, you have one like mine. :)

If it's around 130mW's, it's like the ones that Dave has tested, and you better stay around his recommend 180mA's or so. Which would still put you over 180mW's with the 405-G-1 glass lens mod...

If your red diode is a long open can, then 420mA's seems to be a good place to be for those. That said, it is still pushing them, just like we do with all of them! :D

420mA's with a long open can will give you about 245mW's through AixiZ acrylic, and about 265 - 270mW's with an AR coated acrylic:

Meredtih glass or even the 405-G-1 lens mod will give you about 290 - possibly 300mW's at that current if you get a nice diode.

AixiZ glass - Around 255mW's

that is not from the camera moving... the circle was on the wall before i ever took a pic of it...

That's very strange then! :-?

Maybe the diode did get damaged from reverse polarity connection after all...
Jay

What if the red diode is a short die open can?
I have never encountered one of these, so i don't know how to drive it.

A short open can is much different than the long open cans...

Both are graphed in Dr. Lava's Red Diode Round Up:

Update:

Bummer! :'(

My SF-AW210 'freak' diode just bought it...

I have been giving it 1 minute on times. Not very often. It probably had less than 15 minutes of total on time. The last time I measured the power was just a couple of cycles before it died. And the power had gone up to about 390mW's instead of 384mW's.

A little side note: The FlexDrive had to draw 675mA's to run it at 280mA's/5.6 volts using a single 3.0 volt Energizer e2 Lithium battery.

It surely was too good to be true. But there's only one way to find out. Obviously in hind sight, I would have been plenty happy with running it at 220mA's. This current would still have given me about 300mW's with the 405-G-1 lens mod:

hey Jayrob, I was wondering how you measured 5.6 volts using one 3.0 volt Lithium battery? :-?

I guess i don't know that much about batteries?
