i left the labby running while i slept last night and today it was an LED. both my diodes have burnt out at 250ma. the dilda host had a duty cycle but the labby constantly...

got at least 2 hours from the labby

It says they have 36 left, they had 39 when I checked yesterday, so it seems like it might be accurate (or at least updated).

That is terrible news...maybe these are too good to be true. Jay, you should do a longevity test at a similar current to see if Drew just got duds.
 
Provided my meter arrives tomorrow, I will have another one running a lifetime test (After I've done a complete V-I-P plot of course). What current should I do the lifetime test at, though? Perhaps you damaged them by reverse-currenting instead? It looks like these diodes either aren't being tested accurately, or are significantly different to each other? If not, maybe Jay's was just a freak?
 
I also question whether reverse polarity ended up killing them prematurely However, since he only did it to one, I don't think that's the issue. I wish we had the means of reading those codes on the diode.

Nah, I think that might be the issue. It CAN'T be good for the diode. It might not be bad, but it can't have been good.
 
oh my mistake he did do it to both. I've no doubt that this might be the issue as well. He did indicate the diode was HOT!
 
I can decode the barcodes into 1s and 0s, but we won't get any useful information out of them. Besides, I can't do a macro shot that close, and my eyes sure aren't up to reading it either ;D

I suspect the reverse polarity or temperature killed them, or at least that's what I hope!

What I mean is, since Dave just killed two at 375mA's, that maybe they were damaged from the guy that breaks the sleds with at hammer to get them to us. Because his graph showed much less power readings per mA's fed...

I don't know enough about these test results or anything, but my 'freak' one is definitely more in line with Daves 8X. Almost exactly the same current to power graph. Even the voltage is similar. I did not plot the voltage. But I measured 5.6 volts at 280mA's using a FlexDrive and a single 3.0 volt Lithium battery.

Maybe during the testing of different ones, even if you don't do a voltage plot, check the voltage at 280mA's...

I'm getting two sleds by thursday, and my new fluke 1mm test leads for safer poking around the V4 drive ;). I will report my results next weekend as i build two Stingrays out of these. I will run durability tests as well.

Maybe these truly are 6x's then. What kind of results did you guys initially get when stress testing 6x's for the first time? Cause usually they can be driven pretty far but just wont last long right? Cause can't even something like a PHR briefly go past 250mA?

Seems with all the diodes dying at higher currents, maybe they are just slightly more efficient 6x diodes. It's definitely not as crazy as a 8x running at 512mW, but at least there woudl be some 6x's back on the market to buy. And cheaper, real, 8x's will come sooner or later.

Hey Jay..
could it be a similar scenario as the Xbox sleds that had 2 different characteristic LDs in
them... Maybe they are mixing 6X with 8X type LDs just to stuff the sleds...
Or maybe you're just one lucky SOB that got a freak 6X... ;D ;D
