New - "A better 1W budget boost driver" - AK-007

hey rhd, i didnt want to thread jack so im just asking you if you have tried this driver HERE

got it from DX as well. its also a boost driver. Just built a LOC with it. if you dont mind, I can put up links to a review on it. i'll wait for your response, (didnt wanna piss you off)

In my testing it produced about 570mW with a 445nm and an 18650.

I'm confused - isn't this (roughly) the sku you guys use in SL kits?

EDIT: Wups, my bad. The SL isn't a boost - I knew that.

Nope, but I was looking at it for other applications. :)

Garoq - the ubiquitous nature of your SurvivalLaser just cost me a 445nm diode this morning ;)

Well - not really your fault at all. I built an Aurora with an NJG-18 boost driver to run off 1x cell. It sat here for a while, and just today I decided to pop some batteries in it again. I tossed 2x 16340s inside, without remembering that this wasn't actually a survival laser, but my own single-cell boost creation. Less than a second in and the most putrid smelling smoke came out of the barrel. Driver was toast, diode was toast, and there is a permanent black burn on the tip of my AW IMR 16340 cell.

Damn your laser model for being so successful !

That sucks!

:) Actually I had the same thing happen to me recently while experimenting with a different driver, except that it was on purpose.

Got my ten drivers in the mail today. Man are these tiny!!

I'm trying to decide what to do with these things :D

I was expecting a normal sized driver, not these tiny little guys. they are only like 10mm in diameter, maybe smaller.

I was thinking of offering them with my Powerlight b-50 kits with direct diode heatsinks....

I want to lean more toward pretty and higher quality stuff now and get away from dirt cheap things.

But Moh! That's why we loved your hotlight kit! It was pretty good quality, and it was dirt cheap!
