New 9mm 445 diodes

Mines powered from a 2.5A bench supply, when the ammeter hit 2A, the diode was doing 1900mW , didnt want to push it any further as the numbers wer'ent tallying with what other members were getting.

Do you have a x-drive or blitzbuck that you were planning on using. I would be interested to see if anything changes as those numbers are lower than any that I have encountered.:undecided:

On a different note here are some interesting results from the guys over @ PL. 3.4W with TEC and 2.5W corrected without for 2 hours.:eg:

Ok just did a quick test on the diode that was in the aurara and I must say I am now impressed! I got 2.5W at 2.2A 5.3V So I had the wrong diode in my highpower build. I guess the other one is just not as efficient. Glad I read this thread more because when I baught them the first round no one knew what they could do and I was told to treat them just like any other 445 Probably really good advice to a newbie. Now I see that there is alot more potential for this diode compared to the other 445's.

What is the Max Vf these will take? In order for my psu to put out more than 2.3A it wants to step up the V.

Looks like 2.9W is best it will do and I was pushing the V to 5.6V. @ 2.8A

Me thinks I'm going to try it with my G2 next I know my G2 had about 5% more out in the tests I did.

There ya go 3.15W with my G2. exact same setting as the 2.9W WOOT! WOOT! never seen 3W before...

Its going to be powered by 2 flexdrives @ 1A each , will let you know how it goes.

Just up the V to 6V and reduce the current to zero , THEN connect your diode and edge up the current to the desired level.

From what I have seen 2A wont get you there 2.8A is where I was just getting arround the 3W mark ish.. Anyway's Thanks for these awesome diodes Jordan. I'm going to have to look into maybe trying a different barrel for the 9mm lens or some cleaning. Just for giggles I am going to try the other 9mm lense and see what it will do at these settings and also my other G2. See how the 4 lenses compare.

Just tried the other g2 and it peaked at 3.32W and settled in at 3.22W And something must be wrong with the other 9mm lense because I'm only getting 2.6W at the same settings this is also the lense I had done most of my testing with.

2.8A is way too much for the 9mm diodes. I thought Lazeerer has tested the diodes and they dim at 2.2A.

The 3.3W output looks promising. Is that also at 2.8A ?

I mentioned that there is Signs of Dimming to start at 2.2A-2.3A on those diodes I tested.

Not all will start to dim there.

Then there is also this KILL i did with these 9mm diodes to see how much currant it takes to POP one of these when there Tec Cooled:

POST WAS HERE If you want to read it:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/new-9mm-445-diodes-73284-17.html#post1091758

THe Dimming Like I said STARTS at 2.2A-2.3A You will NOT see it there visually but if you have an Ophir LPM or a Fast response LPM you will see it start dropping some mW....

Then Mainly Look at the Power Vs Currant Ratio. It takes a Drastic Increase drop over 2.1A. That is a classic Sign of "Hey iam getting to much";)

yes that's my last read. It's awefull hot here now so I have been giving the heatsink a 10min chill in the fridge b4 testing. And the saik heatsink does get awefull hot after a couple mins. Ok now I see what's up when the heatsink is cool the reading is 2.56A and as it heats up it goes to 2.8A My last reading was at 2.8A but I just pulled it out of the fridge and hooked it up and it is reading 2.56A It seems my psu goes into CV mode so I must be using it wrong somehow. Oh I figured that out now too. I will test it all again.. lol

if your PSU is in CC mode then moves to CV mode under load, it means your CV isnt set high enough.

Yeah I figured that out. Thanks Well got company over and forgot this laser in the fridge which was not my intention I just wanted to cool it down a little bit but it ended up being fridge cold. anyway's it pushed out 3.48W totally chilled. I have it all on avi just trying to figure out how I can shrink it to upload to flicker it's 200meg 2:15 if anyone knows how... I'm googleing but dont really want to DL abuncha crud.. IS SO A WORD!

I would highly suggest not putting it in a freezer or fridge. Condensation is terrible for optics including the diode window.

Fair enough Like I said it was not my intention to leave it in there this is just a heatsink and optics no host. Cumon Havent you seen wierd science!!! soz CHMS. Humidity is very high now still I havent seen any condensation form. Definately not as bad as using a TEC or Freezer.. Condenstation is a biatche for my computer and I live in a place that has temperature diferentials of 80deg in a 24hr period.

That bad 9mm lense on inspection actually looks chiped on the side and/or it is very dirty. Other nice thing with these lenses is that they are single not multiple so there is alot less stagnant air in them.

There all prints of the video they are time stamped and really my fridge sits at about 5c so that's not likely to cause condensation here. Dont forget to add a 0 to the mm and to be fair subtract about 30mw for the Ophir Jerry told me to remove the heatsink from my ophir for less than 6W but I think it may have been calibrated with it on or it is just reading our hotter ambient temps now compared to usual I throw a beer can in and it goes to zero.. lol All the readings I have taken on other lasers on the usb 2.5W laserbee add up to my ophire so I know it is acurate

at 1min

Here is 1:30

This ophir is good to 6W without and 60W with heatsinking too.

Now I gota kill the one in the long copper! haha :eg:

RHDMOD9 aluminum wins so far! I heard somewhere to have an aluminum module and a copper heatsink but I cant remember why.. as far as the computers go I replaced all teh aluminum with copper water blocks. maybe water removes heat better than copper I duno. It works.

I love the torture room... What temp was your heatsink lasereer? I am going to start adding a ambient and heatsink temp reads in my builds if I can set it all up or when I can. my Rampage 3 has 6 digital temp IN's I could hook up to the heatsink and module. that way high readings would be fair. I would call these tests Lab without the Labrarian! <<< YEAH THAT"S a word too!!!

So when I read the pl450B data sheet it say's 7V max I didnt understand and probably still dont. I should set it up for 7V cc and go from there?

It has been suggested that my psu is to blame. That is highly possible it was a mass produced chinese knockoff (GQ-A305D). most things I kill on it this I dont so far. I may say that my Dmm baterie could be close to dead but the readings speak for themself and I just changed it and the ophirs... 3x9V= 15$ here.... OK worst case my batteries are dead in the MM then the reading goes up another 100ma knock that off the 30ma for the ophir's ambient. 6V this will work. I think 6.5V-7V it will die from the leads. maybe not Maybe I have had too many beers to finish this project safely. I will definately re post what I can tomorrow..

OK OK on to the Fridge issue.. There should be no problems puting your laser in the fridge or freezer.. These devices are made for it. Maybe not the optics but the electronics and diodes should be able to take -40C at the very leist.. unless someone wasnt doing there homework...

How do our cars work at -50 I am going to get my psu checked out to see if it is reading corectly

Ya know I really hate it when people q things that are allready proven right.. I'll get it tested anyway's I want to be sure my numbers are rite too.

cuz I KILLED THIS THING BACK AND FORTH!
