New 9mm 445 diodes

Oh and I will add until we determine what is a save upper limit on these diodes I am still recommending 1.8A even though clearly they can take more. Need some long term data to see if there is any degradation when running over 2A.

Does that even matter? :D

I'd say that any responsible builder is going to at least push 2A. I just got one of foulmist's 1.95A drivers that is good to 6v. I need to get one of these diodes to go with it I guess. Just waiting for my 9mm copper modules. :)

How much are you selling them for? (EDIT - just saw your sig $95 with lens) And do you test/bin them or is it luck of the draw?

:thanks:

I asked him about binning before, it's luck of the draw

Alright boys and girls. Here it is. I know lazeerer has one too but sorry buddy I could not let you beat me to the punch.:na:

The first posting of a 3W(peak) 445 diode.

I remember someone made a laserhost with two 445nm diodes in it to get close to 3W... but this....

Wannaburn actually made two, one was a 2.8W dual handheld, and the other was a dual 3.5W handheld.

I would take the dual 2.8W over a 3W diode any day though because it had better beam specs because he used 3-element lenses.

Hmm, wonder what you would get if you rotated them 90 degrees from each other? Maybe a cross beam?

That would be interesting...

Also, nothing to stop wannaburn from doing the same thing with newer diodes and getting 4-5 watts.

Well, you can't get a cross pattern from knife edging, but you can get it from a PBS. You actually have to have them in a cross shape because the light wont transmit through the PBS if it isn't oppositely polarized.

It's usually with knife edging you end up with a = shape which is ideal because it can be put into corrective optics to make it a : shape. With a PBS and a wave plate the beams will overlap each other exactly which will give a - shape which can be turned into a .

Wannaburn could easily build a 4W laser now I'm sure. 5W may be pushing it because when the power gets higher, the losses from the optics get higher as well.

would not you get a bunch of loss in the center of your cross? or won't the beams at the point they intersect start to cancel each other out?

never mind I post about same time as ARGLaser, using his method would work,

i made my first build with this diode and it does impress me. i have plans to build a big dual drive host for it but i had to see how well it worked so i put it in a jad c6 kit @1.8a for testing.
i'm getting 1810mw or so with a 3 element lens and cheap batteries.

What did you do with the lens that came with it? Right now, this still seems like an expensive alternative to an H140 diode. But it does seem to have some promise...

i put the lens in my optics bin for now. i'll prolly use it in the dual drive build i plan to do.

I got my 9mm diodes from DTR today! I set my power supply at 4.7V 1.8A to test it but it was only drawing 500mA  so I set it at 5V and it only drew 600mA...

What type of power supply are you using?
These diodes do use more voltage, but from what I have seen 5V should be enough for 1.8A
