I got a blank lens holder from Jayrob and put the 9mm lens in it but its still JUST too far away from the diode to focus to infinity when screwed all the way home. It has about a 1" to 1-1/2" dot at 20 feet. I reckon another half a mm would do it
I'm thinking of chamfering or dremel-ing the last couple of threads off the lens holder so the lens gets closer to the diode. I have a tap on order but the threads look pretty well cut right to the bottom. (I ebayed one as they were $60 locally! - none of the tool supply shops locally stock them and they are special order).
Just to mention a couple of things about this...
It also depends on the module. If the module is too long, then it could prevent the lens from getting focus.
There is more involved than just the lens:
* Module length
* Diode length
* Depth of press, etc...
These new 9mm diodes are taller than a 5.6mm diode.
The 9mm module that I have made, is sized so that any lens will get focus with a 'flush' pressed diode.
But it is specifically sized for my 405-G-1 lens assembly with the AixiZ focus ring. An AixiZ 3 element lens will get focus as well, but stick out a little more just like in other situations.
Also, many people don't seem to realize that there are differences in the way a lens is mounted inside the lens nut. Which makes a difference as well...
