Micro-Drive laser driver by rkcstr

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

By the way - as notice to all LPF members - I am selling RKCSTR SM driver kits on my site - you NEED to buy them direct from RKCSTR instead of off my site, as I mark them up quite a bit. I am posting this so nobody thinks I "stole" the idea, or the product from RKCSTR - he is still given full credit in the PDF file for instructions. I have them marked up for everyone ELSE - not intending to take his business away from him, nor to compete with him for business - just trying to offer a choice in my shop !
These drivers are crafted very nicely, RKCSTR delivers super fast, and with TONS of documentation ! GREAT WORK ON THESE DRIVERS !!!

Do you think my drivers will be in England soon?

The US Postal Service quotes 6-10 (business) days for delivery.  Your package shipped 4/25, so I'd expect it would arrive between Friday of this week and Wednesday of next week.

You can also track the package by signing into Paypal and looking up your payment information, there should be a link for the tracking number, though USPS.com isn't very good about updating their tracking information.

Also,
Thanks for the kind words Greg! ;)

Hey rkcstr, looks like my previous post was erased in the forum glitch. What's your background? It looks like you have as much fun with drivers as I do :)
Nice to see these.

Nice to see these.

My background?  Have a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience, have a Master's in Biomedical Sciences and am currently working on my Medical Degree  ;D

As far as engineering/electronic design?  None, lol.  All my roommates in college were engineers.  I've always been told I should have been an engineer.  I used to mod consoles.  I've built and repaired my own audio equipment (amps, crossovers, etc).  Last Oct I saw some article on a website about making a burning laser from a DVD burner and found this site.  From there, I made it to where I am now.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

I was going crazy trying to find my postings to you. :-/
Then it hit me. :o
They probably got lost in the hardware failure :'(

My drivers arrived today. Thank you.

The "dummy" was probably the coolest thing you could have given me. Thank you. My "unblown" diodes will thank you every time I power one up for the first time :)

If there is anything else that I can do for you, just let me know

Peace,
dave

Glad you like the bonus ;D

I meant to include some notes on it, but its pretty simple to use, so you'll probably be fine. I will be posting something in the Experiments & Modifications section for it probably later today.

BTW, for those who don't know what I'm talking about, he sent me something useful, so I sent him along a small PCB based diode test load I made up. Selectable between red and violet loads and has a 1 ohm resistor to measure current. Probably later today I'll post up the PCB design and parts list on here.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

thinking about buying a couple. one question though. you said you would need ~5v to run a red, just wondering how i'm supposed to get 5v?

With batteries, 2x lithium batteries would be sufficient. They could be rechargeable 3.6V or 3.0V or standard 3.0V. Otherwise, you could use 1.5V alkaline or 1.2V NiMH, at about 4-6x in series.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

i have some 14500 lithiums, but fully charged they're 8v combined. is that ok?

Yes, those would be fine.  That's the same as using the RCR123As, just in a different shape, so there should be no problem.
