Micro-Drive laser driver by rkcstr

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Can i recommend something he to people buying this as a kit. Melt solder all over the board, then take a Heat gun(paint removing gun) and heat all the solder and place on the components at once. I do this with my "fit-on-module" and it works great

just to make sure, I dont need to isolate the didoe from the metal host right?

Nope, the output has a common ground to the battery, no isolation of the diode needed.

That's a very DIY version of reflow :) Sort of what I do, except I use a solder paste on the pads, place the components and stick them in a toaster oven to heat the paste until it melts and forms the solid solder bond.

Also, just be careful if you're heating the board with components on it, a heatgun could fry components if you hold it on them too long.

Yes, I never used solder paste(a bit expesnive). But wouldn't putting the boards in a toaster ovent with the components, ruin the components? I have to try that, it sounds easier.

You can buy solder paste from DealExtreme for less than $4... much cheaper than a parts supplier where you'll be paying a heck of a lot more.

Also, the parts are rated for up to 260C reflow, you just need an oven with a temperature control. I turn mine up to ~200C (400F) for the melt phase, well below the peak temp. Here's the place I got the technique from:

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Just received and fired it up!

Works wonderfully, very happy with this

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

I got mine today, they are tiny indeed! I don't have any more laser diodes to power up with them though, oh well I trust that they work ;)

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

The bluray versions of these DO NOT WORK in my barrels. 2 cr123's or rcr123 cannot provide enough voltage.

Are you talking 3.6V rechargeables?  I can't say I've tested a blu-ray with 2x3.6V, but I know 7.2V is teatering on the edge of the dropout voltage for the regulator.  At full charge (4.2V), they should work, but I don't think that lasts very long.  I'm just wondering for my own information about what voltages you were testing at (and the output voltage) and if and how much the output was off.  Thanks.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

the voltage was 6.4v (2 fresh cr123's) and 7.4v (two freshly charged rcr123's) the only time it even lased was when the batteries were freshly charged and that was less than a mw. It didn't stay that way for long as the voltage dropped below the dropout. So sadly I have 2 bluray drivers I'll never use.

I didn't expect 2 regular 3.0V batteries to work, but the others I thought they'd power it OK at least when the battery voltage was >7.2V combined, at least that's what should happen theoretically.

EDIT: Kenom, I think there may be something wrong with one of your drivers or laser diode. Have you tried the other driver? I hooked one of my 38mA drivers to a blu-ray diode and I couldn't find my other RCR123A (3.6V), so I just used my 2x RCR2 (3.0V each, about 6.5V actual), and I have to say, the laser's pretty bright! It's only barely dimmer than with a 9V battery. Let me know if something's wrong with the driver, I'll replace it.

Hey will this work with this flashlight mod > http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186966870? ;D Is there any chance that I could get it within a week? I live in Louisiana, US. What is the system of payment? Sounds really good! :D

My driver fits the Aixiz module and that mod involves inserting the whole module, so yes, it should work.

My system of payment is I sent you a Paypal invoice to your email addres that you pay thru their website.

As for getting it within a week, possibly.  Current I'm studying for an exam and not working on making any drivers until Monday.  But, I have other orders to fullfill as well, so I can probably get them shipped out within a week and regular shipping takes 2-5 days or you can get Priority mail for extra (2-3 days).

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

I would like to order 12 drivers-38mA for Blue ray pointers. Please contact me to arrange payment and delivery.
Thanks, Lordoflasers hitman_0007 at hotmail.com

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Whoohoo!!! Got mine Friday!! My next order is a PS3 diode.

Thanks rkcstr!!!

P.S.
Once I get the hang of DIY I will be ordering more

I will send you an invoice.

Note to everyone, PLEASE send me a PM (private message) for orders. Thanks!

Also, keep a lookout, I'm working on an payment website to simplify ordering for both you and I!

EDIT!! I made up a simple checkout webpage (see first post) that allows you to order these drivers without contacting me beforehand.  Please use this now instead of PMing me, but you are still welcome to PM me otherwise.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Do you think my drivers will be in England soon?
