Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Hey guys I have been working like crazy to get the new batch going and off so that they will be in stock again asap. In the mean time I haven't been able to reply to PMs as fast.
The price will not stay 28, that was an attempt to try to make the few that were left last, but it didn't work! None were actually sold for 28.

Unlike last time when I kept a record of pending orders while the new batch was being made, this time I will cancel all unfulfilled orders until they are in my hands and then accept orders again. If you wish to keep your order in or place a new order let me know but don't complain if it takes a while to get the new drivers in.

Jake the repair fee stays the same for your previous driver. Now stop breaking them :p

Very soon the FlexMod lab laser drivers will be in so you guys can take a break from pointers for a while if you like and graduate to laser shows.
Also the MaxDrive is in the works that will be a fit for common anode c-mount diodes of extreme power up to 5 Amps. It will be a highly efficient solution like the FlexDrive and will be an ideal upgrade for high power portable DPSS and 1W+ IR lasers as well as a great fit for Kenom's upcoming high power c-mount barrel series. :)

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

so can we preorder? the page is still showing ok to order and still has 28$ price.... :-?

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

OK I have changed the order page to reflect the current status. I have also cancelled outstanding orders that could not be fulfilled.
You can preorder if you wish but one requirement: no PMs asking when they will be here, I will post when they are here :p :) should be worth the wait!

thanks

EDITTTT: Delete this, problem solved.

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

I am also interested in one Flexdrive with glass lens. Please send me a pm when more become available ;)
Many thanks

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Dear DrLava,

Please get your flexdrives back in stock as soon as possible... ;D

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Im looking forward to them being in stock again also. Cant wait to build my first laser. :)

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

...First time I try and order...out of stock >:(
Only joking, I await new stocks, make it ASAP Dr.L, there are laser diodes awaiting the kiss of life :).

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Hey, I'm brand new here so please pardon my ignorance.

What other types of drivers are there besides the daedal, rckstr and the flexdrive?
What are the different versions of the flexdrive and how do they compare?
This thread talks about the micro flexdrive V3, but on the order site it says V4. What is the difference?
Also on the order site it asks if you want plastic or glass lens collimating housing. What specifically is this?

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Are there any drivers that utilize the photodiode inside the LD can?

There is no photodiode inside any DVD diode nor any BR diode.

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

Then what is the third pin for? I know at least some of the lower power diodes have a photodiode inside to assist with regulating output, hence the third pin. Then again, the only LDs I have came out of cheap laser pointers and CD/DVD players... :-[

On a BR diode, the third pin is the case pin.
On cheap laser pointers, they do have a photodiode (if it uses a 5.6mm can, instead of a chip diode).

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits

A lot of the lower power LDs have another diode inside the can that changes the amount of power that can pass through it depending on the amount of light it is exposed to. Circuits that use the photodiode pass a small amount of current through it that controls the regulator which powers the laser diode. So basically it monitors the power output of the laser, and if the laser puts out more power than normal (caused by changes it temperature etc.), it restricts the current going to the LD, bringing the output back down to where it is supposed to be. Likewise, it releases more current to the LD if the output is lower than it should be. It's an equilibrium.
