Lasers and Girlfriends

But, as much as you guys as boyfriends have to respect the fact that we waste money on makeup, shopping every weekend, those sorts of things

If a man terms that " waste of money " , he didn't realize for who she's doing it.

Well .. let's face it .. lasers are kinda useless .. thus wasted money. If you are good at it, build and sell them for profit, that should change her point of view.

Its almost like a jealousy thing.. Anything that takes the attention away from
them is bound to cause static..

My wife bought me a PS2 when they came out... She hated it in the first
week because of all the time I was spending on it.

Could have been churning butter, shed get mad at the stick lol..

Lasers take away some of the attention they feel, they deserve...

I can tell you all with 100% certainty it's THIS.

My wife hates my gun collection, not because she's anti-gun, but because I might actually spend TIME cleaning them, or shooting them.

My wife hates my web browsing various technical and hobby forums. Even if she's completely busy reading a book, or watching one of her shows on TV that she wouldn't dream of making me watch and I'm sitting right next to her. As if I'm somehow neglecting her.

And that's why you love us women ^^

Are you trying to be ironic/sarcastic?

Because this is the number one thing that makes me not love her. Because while it's not as if it were some knock-out fight, it's not exactly fun that she's irritated or pouting at everything that makes me happy.

Honestly, I think you're RARE. You participate here on LPF, and you have other "geek culture" like the Anime/Manga stuff in your signature, which tells me even if you have different interests, you at least UNDERSTAND what it's like to actualy have hobbies and interests.

I run into this on the gun boards too, the girls/women, who "get it", just don't know what an unhappy bag of neuroses the average American (I can't speak for others) woman is. They really can't comprehend that a woman would be threatened by anything her husband enjoys.

I'm not asking you to understand it. Since you seem fun and SANE, and hence probably can't. Just believe me that it's true.

Chez keeps updating me on the humerous goings-on in this thread, i felt i had to contribute sooner or later.

My girlfriend doesn't understand my laser hobby. She thinks buying these lasers and shining them around, through optics and smoke is silly. What can I do?

Step 1: Buy her a low-power BluRay laser.
Step 2: Grab a pink highlighter pen and use it to draw and colour in a heart shape on a sheet of paper, don't show her it. Write her name below it.
Step 3: Turn all the lights off, hand her the BluRay and guide her hand to a location on the floor where the paper is. When the BluRay dot is pointing on the heart it'll illuminate the area in pink light and she'll be able to see what you drew.

*Shrugs* worth a shot, i guess?

^ then you know what to ask from Jai, as birthday gift the next time ..... a "pink gold" Herc or Arctic laser, with diamonds and amethysts (for the purple touch) inserts .....

(now, where i can hide, before Jai find me and decide to kill me for the suggestion ? ..... :p :D)

Too late, found you you little bugger! -Whack!-
...as if she doesn't have enough stuff that she asks me for...

If a man terms that " waste of money " , he didn't realize for who she's doing it.

Untrue. For the best part women don't wear makeup for men, that's a myth.

Although she doesn't sound as bad as your wife, Chez is hardly an angel. When she's watching her crappy soaps on TV and i'm sitting nearby she always makes a special effort to ensure i'm not playing videogames. The solution - when she makes you watch a TV programme, make jokes all the way through it so she can't hear what's going on until eventually she gives up and lets you go back to your thing. Worked for me anyway.

Send her back to the kitchen, LOL.

What is she doing in your laser room, anyway? It's not her territory.

Probably she's talking for hours on the phone with her friends about her boy friend's 'bizarre' hobby.

So typical to women.

Fascinating thread. I was told by two girls on first dates that my laser hobby is weird (one said childish as well - this coming from a 24 year old with dolls and stuffed animals in her room). One wanted to see a laser, I had one in my car, showed it to her, she kind of freaked out though when I explained to her that it's kind of dangerous :(

Heh lol, good way to scare away two girls :p meh if only girls would think like us men :D

You have to respect the fact that sometimes a partner will not always be into everything that you are, but maybe you can sometimes break that mold by showing interest in their hobbies, maybe they will open up to yours, relationships are all about Give and take, and sometimes you have to understand you must agree to disagree but still respect each other.

and though as a guy I have my usual hobbies that take up my time, I'm also a very Gallant person so making a woman feel like #1 all the time definitely helps, just remember your hobbies will always be there, but the time you spend with people may not be.

It Always Ends in..... "So What do You Do With It?!? What is It For?

Reply: "I support the economy by buying them on my black Amex."

Only time it went semi well was when I said I used it for astronomy, and showed a couple of constellations. In truth I really don't care all that much about astronomy.

Girls just don't seem to appreciate the knife, gun, flashlight, lighter, laser, computer, sci fi, related hobbies. Which is basically everything I do find interesting:undecided:

You're looking in the wrong places...I know plenty of woman like that, but I must also add that when going on dates, especially when just getting to know someone, bringing up guns knives and lasers is just a creepy topic for a first time or even a second time meeting lol.

Oh trust me, I avoid talking about guns and knives until at least date 4, and only to see what the view point on the topic is ;)

In my disasters (aka first dates) I've found that religion and politics tend to be much more dangerous topics.
