Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groove

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

Some of you may not have seen a lathe. Here is Kenom's head in hot grease --- OOPS ;D I mean the Kryton head being cut.

and here is the finished product with three fins instead of 4. Very nice job on Mike's part.

I hope it isn't too soon to ask, but do you have a rough estimate as to how long these will take to arrive? Say, from the the last order date of 4/20?

That is a very good question and I'm glad you brought it up.  Since the response from run 2 hasn't been stellar as of yet.  I think we've got 30 participants with 98% only getting 1 barrel that means this won't end on 4/20, but will probably go a bit beyond.  I'm 99% sure that everyone is waiting for run 1 to complete and since we are still waiting on drivers for that one, folks are probably going to be a bit worried about the time frame conserning how long it will take for run 2 to complete.  or for that matter how long until we get drivers for run 2.  Rest assured I've got the driver thing solved for run 2.  I won't elaborate other than to say it will be a design different than previously seen and will be a kit you can assemble yourself so you don't have to wait for someone to assemble them.

Now I know that doesn't answer your question because honestly there are still too many factors that are unknown at this point. Like for example, I've submitted the barrel design to another manufacturer to improve run time and as of yet, I've heard nothing back. I'm really trying to drop the price of this down a bit so that it's a bit more affordable for the average joe. so I still really have no estimate on timeframe. I'm sorry.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

i don't want to miss it but i may not have enough money in 3 weeks(spiralling costs of mxdl mod - over £100 now)
if it finishes, will you be able to hold one for me until i have enough money?

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

most likely. However I seriously don't think that this will finish by the date that I posted. were entirely too far away from having the #'s I wanted to see to go forward. 30 barrels ordered is not enough to submit the order.

If my tax return beats your end date then I will pick up a couple. Thanks for the honesty on the eta too. I would rather know there is no good estimate than make plans based on a faulty one.

Kenom's head in hot grease

I GET IT NOW!!
;D ;D

sorry for OT, but I'm a bit slow sometimes...

Kenom, could you work on redesigning the barrel so the driver compartment screws off from the battery chamber?

If it were like that, one could easily incorporate a spacer, and on the bottom of the spacer (the end of the driver chamber) a battery contact board. without the driver compartment screwing off, there is no way to make sure the contact board is turning as you are screwing in the head. (which could lead to more pulled pins..)

please tell me what you think,

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

regardless of how it's designed as far as the head screwing into the driver chamber or the driver chamber screwing into the barrel you still have to initially screw in the driver and head into the chamber. The way that I have mine inserted into place works well and have had no problems. We are trying to come up with a "board" that gets inserted onto the bottom of the diode with circular pads that will always come into contact with the drivers. This will allow for the driver to get mounted, and not have to remove it in order to get access to the diode. I'll try to illustrate my point.

Take these drivers here. http://www.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_3160_3.jpg You can see the two circles. ONe for negative one for positive. as you twist the head it will always come in contact. the driver sits in the head and this twists into place on the driver board.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

If I understand this correctly:
This may present the same problems for the LD as socketing... unless of course a capacitor (plus, I'd say, a resistor sufficient to drain the cap quickly) is soldered in across the 2 poles. Looks like this idea would facilitate that - the cap/resistor being surface-mount on the diode side of the board.

and hey, if you need smt caps, I got some on eBay for between 5c and 10c each... at here and here

examples:

ceramic 100uf 6.3V x50/$5.00
ceramic 4.7uf 16V x100/$8.00
tantalum 47uf 10V x100/$5.00
tantalum 33uf 16V x100/$6.00

etc.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

Just checked out for one. Not ready to build yet, but will be soon ;)

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

Kenom,
Can you confrim I'm on the "paid" list. I don't see my name in the "interested" list at the beginning of the thread and I paid a awhile ago.
Just checking.

Thanks!
Chris

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

Sorry.  I've been really swamped in trying to get everyone's shipments ready to go for GB 1 and havn't updated the purchased list.  Essentially what it comes down to is even though you've made a purchase doesn't mean I can correlate it to you on LPF or wherever cause there is no notes or anything on the orders to let me know who is who.  That's not your fault but mine.  I just don't know how to do this kinda stuff (websites or coding) on the net...
