Heh I don't think so! At $20 a pop, that would bring the price of the host down to less than $10. The only way I could achieve that kind of price would be if I produced thousands of them!!!
 
70-75mm long?

The AA battery is 55mm long, the Aixiz lens threads and diode fitting are about 12mm, assuming the alu is 2mm thick, then there is only about 1-6mm left for the driver and switch?

I wouldn't mind even if it was 100mm long, how about others? One of my own design concepts for single AA was actually 100mm long with a royal driver compartment of 19mm and a hollow front part of 9mm. You may even (re-)use parts of my design if you want. I'm not doing anything with it anymore.

I think he mentioned at one time that the driver would need to sit flat in the design. However, the FlexDrive would require a 15mm diameter (at best) to make that happen. I'm developing a driver that should fit flat in a 13mm space and could be driven by an alkaline/NiMH instead of a Li-Ion, and should be available by the time the Pocket Rockets come in.

I second that... though my development time is probably slower than most. I have one in progress that will be both adjustable and dimmable, and should be ready in plenty of time. I am not in a position to promise anything now, but piping up here to illustrate the point that existing driver technology need not be a constraining factor on design of these barrels.

Yay for competitors! :)

I've got a set of circuit boards in printing right now, and after that I've got two forum members involved for a signoff on the finished circuit before I start offering them for purchase. I would like to start selling them by the new year, but I can't promise that.

The circuit will be adjustable...at least it better be with the prices of the potentiometers I use. There will (most likely) be two ranges you can get - 40-200 mA, and 45-500mA.
 
The driver does not need to lay lengthwise in the barrel.  You could use a very small space with this configuration..

I originally had wanted to use a 10440.  but there are a lot of folks concerned about there not being any protected 10440's on the market.  Although with the short times that we would be utilizing these lasers, it won't be an issue.  Your not going to blow up a battery with 1 minute of usage.

The illustration below shows about a total of 7mm usage.  with the example of a flexdrive, the positive is wired directly from the underside with a wire to the closest side of the switch.  it then runs directly to a spring mounted on the other side of the pcb thereby completing your circuit.  You then wire the flexdrive to the diode with a short bit of wires.

I didn't throw out dimensions for total length without having some incling to how I was going to accomplish it. These hosts have been months in designing.

How about a tiny CR123A sized host that looks like an RPL?
 
That has merit. It's not something I'm all that crazy in love with doing right now. god knows I'm going to have a hard enough time warranting the 100+ of each of the units that will be made. I'll sell maybe 50 of the block turned round, 20 more of the grooves (especially since everyone has at least one now) and the beast and PPR will be the more popular and actually need the larger numbers.
