Help!!! I can't do my own research!

Everyone getting annoyed at people jumping on this kid need to go back and read the first few pages of the thread again, thoroughly.

1st, he made a thread with the title "Help!!!". If you have read the rules and stickies forum, you'll know not to do this. You do not need help, you are requesting help to buy a laser, so use that as your title.

2nd, his first post indicated he has not done ANY research at all, and just wants a high powered laser NOW.

3rd, his age. Enough said.

4th, Does not seem to understand the responsibility of owning a high powered laser, and doesn't seem to care either.

I skimmed through the thread.

One question.

He's not 18.

Why is he still here? There is no need for this debate.

Seems pretty clear cut.

I agree that no one 11 years old should be getting a >5mW laser. I'm not even sure whether they should be a member here or not.

But I suspect we have a LOT of members under 18 years of age.

I understand not trusting his statements or ability to safely operate a laser, but I don't understand why people need to attack an 11 year old for acting like an 11 year old.
Perhaps you were an angel when you were 11 but for the kids who aren't, they are not responsible for it - their age and parents are what determine their actions. Kids not being responsible for their mistakes is the whole reason we don't want them to have lasers - we want to prevent them for making bad mistakes.

@Danefex
I agree completely with everything you have said. I did give him a negative reputation point, but it was done to put a red square next to his name so that members had a clear indication that they should not blindly sell a laser to him. If his father wishes to come to the forum and purchase a laser, he can create an account with a clean slate and inform himself of what kind of responsibility he is giving his son. Some kids learn to shoot a gun when they are younger than 11. I believe that, if the guardian of a child is well versed in safety, judges that the child is capable of following the correct procedures and observes the child while he is operating it, there is no problem in buying him a laser.
I do not understand why some people have chosen to call him a "moron", "idiot" or "douche" in the tags. The issue is his age. Perhaps that makes him an "idiot" compared to an adult but what you guys are doing is the equivalent of ridiculing a baby for being unable to speak. He seems more polite and better at expressing himself than most 11 years olds.

Thanks. I think the neg rep/red box next to his name is an excellent indicator to warn anybody else unaware with this situation to read first. This works for me when researching somebody here & I think that was a good idea, because in the past I have learned about bad sellers, fraudulent people, scammers, ect from those little red boxes. In this case it's actually null though because he does not meet the age requirement - but the indicator is informative for the time while he's still around.

You're correct IE, he does not belong on this forum - there's no question about it. The only thing I'm trying to communicate with my previous messages is that when someone like him joins the forum & seeks what this kid has wanted - is that we, as a respective, responsible, educated group of adults can handle it better than how this unfolded. That's all man, I'm not picking anyone out, blaming anyone, ect - that's just not how I am. I just think there's a better way to handle this when it happens again :)

I read the whole thread and I personally (cant speak for others) was aware of his situation before the fire started. While I agree with all 4 points you have made, my goal here was to address how we treated a situation like this & how I think we could do a better job denying someone well underage than what we've done here

I could easily make an account and PM someone with my paypal and address. Even easier I could just click the rotating banner ads and get one shipped to me no questions asked.
So why are you all butt hurt over him asking questions? Shows that he at least wants to learn instead of just ninja'ing a laser with no knowledge.
Get off your high horses. Genocide is happening around the world and you're getting all up in arms over 1 kid with a laser? What's the worst that happens? He blinds himself or someone else and he gets his ass whooped or arrested, laser is gone. Who cares? Does it effect you?

So you are basically saying that you don't give a damn if an 11 year old blinds himself or someone else because worse stuff happens in the World? What a sad, sad opinion.

One of the main points of this forum is to spread information about laser safety to the public. If we can try to help prevent someone from getting hurt, why hold back just because he might not listen and may get a laser from somewhere else anyway?

Umm... This kid never wanted to learn a single thing. He wanted to form over cash for a high powered laser never to return again so he can go "burn the ass hairs off his cat at 10ft" LOL

Do none of you remember what it was like to be young? If something was "cool" and interested you and people just slammed you for it you tried that much harder to get it / do it.

Why hold back? Because your words are wasted and you all just look like torch burners. DJNY had the right idea. Answer his questions and educate the kid with respect and maybe he'll have respect for the situation.

Then why didn't he just click a banner at the top of the screen and get a laser without hearing you all QQ? Kids either a troll or is here to be educated. After the 10th person made a safety comment I think the horse was reduced to mulch. No need to reduce it further.

$265 is much too high for a 1W laser. Also, did any of you have dispensable $260 at age 11?
Troll for bust on LPf builder perhaps? :tinfoil:

Netherlands Laser Law:
Before 1998 Class 3A lasers were allowed. In 1998 it became illegal to trade Class 2 laser pointers that are "gadgets" (e.g. ball pens, key chains, business gifts, devices that will end up in children's possession, etc.). It is still allowed to trade Class 2 (< 1 mW) laser pointers proper, but they have to meet requirements regarding warnings and instructions for safe use in the manual. Trading of Class 3 and higher laser pointers is not allowed.

.

Not a very good troll. If I were trolling I would at least try to assure the seller that I was a responsible 16-17 year old, or something along those lines.

Heck, I don't even think age matters if you don't have the proper FDA stuff in the USA.

He's only asking basic questions and has minimal requests. Why not just answer with proper information and give him some options based upon his needs with maybe some flavor of what you all think would be a good laser for him to try next.
You can only troll people that allow you to get a reaction. Why feed into the attention?

tsteele did a review on some laser glasses that are perfect for your price range. 7$ and work great.

Make sure you buy two so you can play with your friend and dad.

A few members have given you some advice on where to find the laser based upon your specifications. You should look into them and respond with any further requests or questions you might have.

Ok, that's true, BUT it is legally to ship a laser of any kind in The Netherlands, but here i cant trade it...

Simplified, i can get one, but i cant send one.
