Harvesting the Lite On 12X

I'm not a fan of 405 in particular, but these things seem to deliver where raw power is concerned. How much would they cost in a GB?

GB would be an option I guess but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with holding other people's money. I'd rather just buy a batch outright. Only reason I don't have the funds atm is because this quarter's health insurance premium was just due. bleah. So as usual it wiped me out.

And GB cost would depend on how many people wanted one. I wasn't dealing with the vendor directly since I don't speak chinese, but from what I was relayed by my gf, they didn't seem to offer any quantity discount but they weren't asked about quantities over 25, but shipping got jacked up A LOT on orders under 25 pieces.. mainly because I don't think they wanted to deal with it. 25 or over the shipping per piece was sane though.

Looks like for 25, it'd be $55/sled, all shipping included (inside the US) not a huge amount cheaper than rayfoss (factoring shipping, $14 I think) but still cheaper. I wish I could have talked to the guy directly though heh. A quantity discount might be worked out for a large enough order. I'm just not sure.

One thing that bugged me though is that she was asked if these were for laser pointers... I'm not really sure why a vendor would care. She sideskirted the question though by saying she was just asking for someone else and didn't know what they wanted them for.

I probably won't try a GB unless people just start crawling out of the woodwork wanting me to. It'd take a few weeks to get the ball rolling with a GB anyway, and by that time, i'd have the free funds again to just buy a batch directly and sell them off without having to hold people's money.

^Already in the pipeline people... China is holding back supplies at the moment but I'm in the queue for these and will update when more info is available. A sample is on the way and a cheaper 8x diode is sitting on my bench waiting to be tested too.

Holding back supplies? Vendor I talked to said they had over 8000 in stock ready to ship.

^ Holding back supplies could well mean, "We don't think you are big enough to talk to". Therefore it's a numbers game. Give 'em enough and they might suddenly have some to sell. ;)

I've been looking at sorting a supply for a few weeks so interest should be registered in the GB feeler thread posted here -

Getting some numbers may change the vendors mind.

Ah. well, Best of luck with that heh. I'll probably have a batch for sale in about a month myself.

Hmm, this Lite-On drive is tempting... I may have to breakdown and buy one myself for some 405nm testing.

Hmm.

what was the repeatability spec of that Laser Bee?
What about the experimental error?
My Ophir Vega LPM has like a 5% error, trying to read a 2% difference here is not woth discussion.
It's similar to saying a 405-G-2 lens gives a 5mW lower power reading than the 405-G-1 lens at 500mW. You can't measure that and prove it!

DTR...
I think all looks fine. A 2% drop could be explained by many reasons, and maybe only one of those is diode degradation.
Great work!

Hmm. Your first chart says you hit 785mW @ 580mA the first time, and you say it only did 777mW @ 580mA the second time? Seems like there was some degrading then.

Seems to me, just from this limited sample size anyway (1, lol) that 600mA would be the magic number not to exceed if you want a long diode life.

I am pretty sure the difference was due to the fact that the graphed tests were done with the driver being driven by the bench supply where I could see realtime mA. And the test that produced the 777mW @ 580mA was done with a microboost set by my pyroload. I am waiting on another sled and when that gets here I will take the diode back out of the 18650 host and run the tests with the bench supply again and see if there was any degradation.
