GB: 1W 520nm diode information/giveaway

That's excellent news!

Re: the money I raised in my FS thread, which was originally going to go towards replacing the diode, if there are no objections, I think I'll put that towards the costs of the OPEN Boost V2 project. I'm guessing there will be a few more revisions of it on the horizon, and I've already spent a couple hundred dollars on parts to get us to the V15 revision we're at now.

Why would there be any objections?

You've provided us with invaluable information and expertise. I think that everyone will agree that it's perfectly fine for you to use the money for whatever you see fit

In that case, I'm going out for a nice dinner!

Nah, just kidding.

I sent three new iterations of the Open Boost off to Arg a few days ago. He has been generous enough to take the time to do scope testing of the drivers - something I can't do.

It's not far from where it needs to be.

YaYYY!

Now we can just delete the last 30 pages and all be friends again!! :D

Also, the diode will be sent with tracking and insurance this time??.....Yeah?

Yes, the trash needs to be taken out to the curb. I can do that.

I'm going to make a comment that is intended at preventing a potential further source of drama -

It should go without saying, but I would strongly encourage the GB participants to, very clearly and directly, agree that no further testing on this diode is to be conducted. I can only imagine the drama that would ensue at this point if Andy were to get the diode back from the post, do some further testing, and then accidentally damage it in the process

I would encourage everyone to very quickly agree that now that the diode has been found, Andy is to ship it back, in its current working condition, without further testing, using insured and trackable shipping. He should immediately provide the tracking number to Arg, so that Arg can monitor the exact status of the diode en route without having to contact Andy each time.

I think a little pre-planning now, will prevent the risk of anything else derailing the thread's recent good fortune.

Let´s cross fingaz that the diode is still in working condition after being in the mail for 6 months.

I agree to send it back to ARG (tracked, insured and as quick as possible) is the best option!

/snip/

Yes, please. Get it back to whoever, then off to the winner. This whole ordeal is growing rather old, me thinks. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Nichia releases a higher powered 520 sometime soon, based on trends of their other diodes. Lets just get this over and done with, shall we?

Fine with me. At least we can have a "happy ending" for this adventure:).

What a crazy notion, cant imagine why you would do that
