I was kinda close too- so i am putting one back up that was never fully IDed IMO
I put vdc power to it from 3 to 12 v nothing happens- found in a misc box of wires and such- I am I correct saying/thinking that LEDs only work with the + and - going to the correct side AND that they normally have reverse polarity protection??

there are no markings of any kind on this item..

adding more pics since i don't know what the hell this 'wire' is for.

I have seen those before, but I don't know what they are either, and I'm fairly sure those are IR LEDs, so
you won't see much if anything. LEDs have no reverse protection whatsoever. Running current through
them backwards is not good for them, though it's not as bad as it is with a laser diode. It depends on how
much and for how long. The same goes for the high power ones such as the Phlatlights (guess how I
found that out). :cryyy:

Ah I did not think of non visible LED-light can I check that with my LPM? would the center likely be the +end?? maybe i should check the continuity at the plug when light shines of the clear lens (?photodiodes?)these have OR MAYBE I take a hammer and see whats inside--

My reply to H Mike about the red mystery things was a clue-- including the quote he has there.

'Stop pi$$ing like a puppy, Sherman!!'

(but nothing to do with toilet training a dog)

I know what they are, they are repeaters for IR controllers, if you have a house stereo system and you have speakers in your bedroom you will
have a pick-up unit in you bed room and it will send the controllers IR single over wires to the stereo equipment and there it is fed into these
units which are mounted just under your main control unit, now you can turn the volume up remotely ;)

I know as I had this type of set up many years ago

We've had these before in this thread I think.
