FS: PL520 Direct Green Laser Diode

Just wondering how many of these you have in stock...I am planning to do a build sometime, and I would like it to have significance. I think such a wavelength would be significant.

Anyone want to start a murder fund for power and wavelength readings? I'll pitch in.

Also, let's say I DID want to buy one of these bad boys....is there a particular driver setup that would be good? Things to avoid? I don't know a lot about dropout voltages and I have never needed to find a driver for a GREEN diode LOL.

Thanks,
Isaac

I'm going to try to use the Blitz linear set to 190mA (max operating current on data sheet) and 2-3 batteries. The data sheet has its operating voltage as 8V. I'm fairly nervous too about these as we're kinda walking on thin ice with these.

How much different would 520nm be than 532nm? Just curious....

The x-drive (Lazeerer's buck driver) with three li-ion cells has been used with this diode. I believe that's what RHD and Arytha (SP?) used for their builds.

The operating voltage is a real pain in the backside with this diode.

Check out RHD/Arytha pictures of their comparisons or zraffleticket's pictures. Both have good comparison pictures with 532nm.

I forgot he used a 3x cell host, it looks smaller. I guess I'm buying a V7 X-Drive tonight... I have one of these diodes just waiting for a 3.8mm press, host, and driver. It'll be my pleasure to post a build thread probably around Monday or Tuesday next week when it's complete.

I'll pitch into a murder fund.

Aye, the difference is noticeable. Its not too far off-- but it's a much nicer green than 532nm.

I might pitch into the murder fund.

Can't wait to see the build tread!

Would it be possible to use a Boost driver with these to get it to a more manageable number of cells?

As long as it can boost to 8V. IIRC efficiencies will be lower with a greater difference between vin and vout.

I hate to say this, but 520 might be virtually indistinguishable from 532.

To see the nice forest green color, you really need down around the 510 to 515 (max) range.

Gunna use a microboost, it can boost to 13V!

Rule of thumb for output voltage and current for the microboost:

(Vout x Iout) ) / (Vin) < 1.2

So (8V x 0.2A) / 4.2V = 0.38

therefore 0.38 is less than 1.2 so it will work well.

Hey man been a while! When I get this thing built will you spectrometer it for me?

Ill either roll something custom for it or go with benboost.
