I have been working on a full colour PWM driver similar to the one in my RGV-lab laser to fit inside a portable unit. The shape of the board will follow the shape of the White Fusion Kit to save space.

The extension will feature:
> 3x DDL drivers for the lasers - no additional drivers required!
> Multi-turn potentiometers to adjust the colour balance.
> The drivers will be adapted to your diodes with the proper current setting.
> 26 programs! Rainbow, strobe, colour wash, rambling, static colours and much more!
> Two button inputs to control programs with an home function to make it easier to use.
> Memory saves the program you were in last.
> 16 million+ possible colours - that's over nine thousand!
> Inbuilt spike and reverse voltage protection + bleeding resistors on all channels.
> Input voltage: 9-12V DC. 3x 4.2v batteries will be fine.
> Dimensions: 63 x 35 x 25mm.
> Works with 405nm or 445nm diodes!

The following max currents are available, if your red diode for example can take 420mA safe, you choose the nearest LOWER current (391mA). This this so you wont have to worry about over-doing the potentiometers on the board when adjusting your white balance. Though you may choose the highest currents and go through the trouble with a DMM if you want.
You choose one max value for each of your red, green and violet-or-blue laser, independently of course.

Here is a sample of what it can do with the old version (shows 4 of the programs), but the video hardly justifies it's awesome colours!

Price:
550 SEK (Swedish Krona) each including shipping. (this covers the Paypal fee, so don't add it)

Accessories:
2pcs momentary push buttons with red push caps: $1.50
3pcs insulation pads + bushings for the regulators: $1
(The accessories are mandatory for the function of the driver, but if you already have them there is no need to buy them from me)

If you want, I can solder all the wires to the driver for power, buttons and laser diodes in ~15cm length for $5. I only have a limited supply of wire, I will offer this till they run out.

Orders list round 2:

User name, How many pcs, R-G-B max current in mA's, Accessories:

0 more drivers available, indefinitely.

By buying you understand that this driver may not be 100% safe and I am not responsible if of your diodes get damaged. I have done some hard testing and so far no diodes have died because of the driver.

Cheers!

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

How does the driver solve the problem of a case negative red, and a case positive green?

I'm interested BTW

It doesn't , it's not supposed to, and no electronic means really can. Thermally conductive electrically isolating pads do that ;)

OMG! That looks awesome. The only concern I have is that jayrob noted he needed (or at least wanted) to use two 4.2V batteries for the O-like module becuase it drains batteries really fast, is this too much voltage if you had one 4.2 going to the red driver and one 4.2 going to the blu ray driver? I think this is a great idea!

The drivers are currently configured in paralell so they would all get the same voltage but at different PWM frequencies. one could use 3 4.2V lithiums with a third in parallel just to boost the capacity a bit.

EDIT: 4.2V is also too low for the BluRay driver as the voltage of the diode + the dropout voltage of the driver is closer to 7.5V

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

The green module needs to be wrapped around with a thin insulating material like shrink tube, tape or plastic with thermal grease. If it is done properly it will still construct enough heat to get a decent run-time.

@ ZRTMWA: this uses one common 9-12V power source only. It could be possible to add a power jack for mains power.

Can I spell, Y -E -S

Why yes I can

Not just yes, but HE11 YES

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I would be interested in one.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

YES. At $50 for all that? HECK YEAH!

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

The green module needs to be wrapped around with a thin insulating material like shrink tube, tape or plastic with thermal grease.

Just a suggestion : polymide tape (in some countries is called Kapton tape).

It's extremely resistent (just don't punch it with fixing screws), decent heat conduction (sometimes is used in place of mica insulators, with thermal grease, on power transistors), and very thin, and being adhesive, it stay when you place it.

and not extremely high cost

DealExtreme: $4.20 Polyimide Heat Resistant/High Temperature Adhesive Tape (24MM*33M/260-C)

:D

That looks perfect! Thanks. :yh:

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Awsome work! :gj:

Nice video too. Bet it looks awsome in person.

I insolate my mount on the green side of my kits by coating the mounting washer in JB weld. Works great and allows you to keep as much metal to metal contact from the module to the heat sink as you can. I still use past to cover the gaps.

EDIT: Here's a Pic of what I mean.
7%20ColorOpen_JB%20Mod.jpg

You just have to make sure there is a gap between the module and the mounting bolt.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Wow it just keeps getting better! :D

You just have to be extra careful with the green module, there is allot of exposed metal conducting a positive charge that is very close to alot of negative conducting metal.

But the worst thing that could happen is that the green gets shorted to ground and just shuts off.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

It is close there isn't it. I will be insolating the metal close to the green heat sink on this build. You are correct about it being the positive conductor so contact would mean no limit on the current and puff. there is about 3mm of space there too but you can't be too careful.

With your driver that area would be filled by it so the batteries would go where my driver is now. I found some lipo bateries that should fit back there nicely. Can't wait to see your driver when it's finished. Is it analog input only or do some of the ICs have some controler modes of there own? In any case if a 5V regulator can be added then some thumb wheel pots can be used as voltage deviders so that people can safely dial in any color they like.

edit: OK I just read that the driver is TTL not analog mod so the 5V regulator wouldn't work like I mentioned.

Cheers,

Ryan

Nice, FML! I knew you'd go ahead with this :)

Whenever I get my internet back, expect LONGcat diachi+FML+Niko convos on MSN!!

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Update: most of the parts have arrived but it might get delayed another week.
