what's up with DX?  waiting for supplier under status for almost a week now.

i ordered some batts and charger for a batch #3 laser. is there a stateside supplier?

Order:   XXXXXXX  placed on  2/12/2009 7:45:52 PM
Status:
(of current
shipment) On 2/12/2009:
Waiting for Supplier

Read back through the thread man... all the answers are right there. Yes, there are stateside suppliers. Yes, the batteries are 4 times the cost of DX. Yes, DX has been delayed. Yes, this is posted on their website.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I just got another package of batteries delivered to a friend (i distributed my shipments to different addresses), so the battery crysis is over.

GMail made it through!  Yea!

I'm off to class.  If I get back early enough, I'll get this out today.  If not, it will go out tomorrow.

Peace,
dave

Mailer DAEMON says:
Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

I can post here, if i'm really persistant, but it's all going downhill. I'll try from my other email address, and if that doesn't work, we'll just have to wait for it to blow over..
Stay inside.  Stay warm.

Peace,

There's not much else i can do... I'll stay inside and focus on the work.

If someone didn't get a reply to an email, just let me know (oddly enough, they do come to me, they just sometimes don't go out), and i'll write you again, once the freaking internet starts working normally again.

Dave: If you don't get the invoice today, no biggie if you ship a day later. Thanks for your help! Talk to you soon!

GAH! Four times! >:( I'm off..... This is too frustrating.

Yaaay! It worked! :D

After 15 attempts! :o

But the main thing is, that you got it.... Thanks for letting me know!

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I just finished construction of a 'laser workshop' in the basement. Eh, maybe more an electronics workshop since I am going to attempt to build this nixie tube clock: http://tubehobby.com/show_det.php?det=15

DX batteries should be here this week... laser is quick to follow... after all this arrives I won't be leaving the new 'lab' for a bit! Exciting stuff... 8-)

Yesterday it was so bad i couldn't leave the house!

Yeah, I hear ya - Vienna was a mess too... :o

The only bright side to all the snow is I had a lot of fun with my 50mW greenie as the snow triples the perceived brightness of the laser - I mean, our courtyard looked like a nightclub - all I would have needed was a disco ball... ;D

WOAH thats a freaking high price!

I mean seriously I could make 4 lasers for that price.

You just keep proving my point that just because you have a pile of posts you can still have no idea what you are talking about..Instead of repeatedly posting to every thread on the forum, try reading a few of them first.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Igor,

how many lasers in batch #3 do you have to make?

i'd like to get in on that lens group buy.

I'd like to see you try.

You couldn't make two of these for the price. I think you're a little confused as to what i do here.

Until a short time ago, the parts for a PHR blu ray alone were around $100. That's if i ignore the fact, that i always pre-tested all my diodes, and only used the better two thirds, putting the weaker ones aside and using them for experiments, trying to figure out what they are capable of, to further our knowledge of them.

Now, with 6x's, weeding out the weaklings is becoming expensive. But i still do it.

I could make random-all-over-the-place lasers if i always simply used the next diode in a row, but so far, everyone got a hand picked good diode, even tho the price difference is only the price difference between a PHR and a 6x diode.

But if with 6x's one third turn out to be too weak, what does that make the cost of the good ones? 150% of $60 is $90!
And if people get a 6x laser with a hand picked high efficiency and/or high wavelength diode, and the weaklings are weeded out, that means they got a diode worth $90 in their laser!

So go ahead. Try to make four such lasers for the cost of one. Even with randomly selected diode (simply using the next in row regardless of efficiency and wavelength) and all generic parts, you could only do two at best. Unless you're thinking of skipping some essential parts?  :-?

If these were official products of my company, they would cost the same number, but in euro, not dollars. Otherwise, i wouldn't be making much, after all the taxes and whatnot.

As it is, the little that's left after buying more parts, killing more expensive diodes in experiments (to figure out what they can take - to give my buyers the best power recommendations for their needs) and various torture tests, other research and so on, goes into the custom lens project.

I haven't gotten a single dime out of all this yet. How could i? PayPal doesn't work in Slovenia, i can't withdraw money to a bank account. I can only use it on stuff online. So i use it on the lens project. So far my company picked up all the bills for the lens developement. And i returned that money to my company, by buying some business stuff using PayPal.
We've all seen pictures of lasers that have been put together with electrical tape and bad soldering...

The kind of work that Igor does on these builds is 'customized perfection'! From his custom heatsinks and hand made drivers, to the perfect fit, design, and proper soldering.

I would also like to mention, that when I was building complete lasers for sale, I felt that offering the 6X upgrade at cost was not worth it for a builder. There is too much risk in damaging a diode. Or even worse... as Igor mentioned, because of his conscientious effort to 'weed out' the weaker ones in order to provide only the best, he is loosing money on these. Not to mention all of the time, money and effort that he has put into testing.

I must even mention that I talked to Igor about wanting to raise my prices on 6X upgrades because it was not worth it to offer them at cost. But that I could not do such a thing because he is offering the upgrade at cost. (actually less than cost)

Anyway, you guys should get his 6X upgrades while he is still 'giving them away'! I seriously doubt he will be able to keep the upgrade price as low as he has it...

You are consistently proving yourself to be more and more immature with every single one of your posts I go through. Have you seen the work Igor puts into one of these sexy beasts? Actually, lets see you TRY to make 4 lasers for that price, let's go through the materials, and these are just the BARE MINIMUM!

6x Sled ~ 60
Driver ~ 30
Host ~ 20
Batteries ~ 4
Heatsink ~ 30
Labor ~ We'll leave this at 0, since you're going to be making them.

60+30+30+20+4
144 each. Igor's most expensive laser on here is 270.
270/144 = <2
You wouldn't be able to make TWO lasers for this price.

EDIT: Not even 270, it's 260!
260/144 ~ 1.8

The sexy beast you would be refferring to would be a sexual tyrannosaurus.

Hey, IgorT, make sure that you let us know if you DO decide to bail on the 6x diodes. though this would be a shame, as their full potential hasn't been realised. with your custon lens they will be monsters. But keep up the good work. can't wait till the next generation of IGOR CUSTOM goodness is let loose.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I'm just happy to report my DX batteries showed up today.   :'( :'( :'( :'(

Once they actually shipped, AirPost was quick!

Ok, attempt #3 (i keep dropping offline).....

We have a horrible snowstorm here, since yesterday. Other than cars crashing all over the place, i even lose internet connection every few minutes.. I'm having trouble sending some emails too. Which reminds me!

Dave: If you're reading this, please write me! It's important! I don't know if you got my email with the updated "invoice" or not, cos i keep getting a failure notice.....

Anyway, I hope they clear the roads by the evening, cos i have some stuff i need to ship. Yesterday it was so bad i couldn't leave the house!

I was watching the news yesterday. Jesus.. And i thought it was bad here! Is it getting better on your end?
