Wow I've missed a lot since I last looked better read up on whats going on lol, hope your customs improve Igor you don't seem to be having much luck with them.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

are copper heatsinks better than aluminum?

if so...

HINT

GEE wouldnt it be GREAT if IgorT gave an option for a nice copper heatsink? yeah thatd be AWESOME!

/HINT

say... whats better for a heatsink? what makes aluminum the metal of choice? why arent most heastinks made of steel or copper or whatever? anyone know the basic physics here?

COST $$$$$$$$$$$$

Aluminum is cheap.  Copper is about 3x the cost of Al right now.  Cu is more efficient at thermal transfer, 400 W/mk compared to 237 W/mK for Al.  But at triple the cost, Al does just fine.  For laser application (as a hobby), I might think copper is easy to work with and readily available in the small quantities you would be using... Either would be just fine - if the temps we were talking about were a bit more extreme, Copper might be justified.

that's the plan. 450+mw green focusable. ;)

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Copper has a few more advantages such as its higher specific heat capacity. Aluminum is approximately 2.42J/*Cm^3 as opposed to 3.46J/*Cm^3 for copper which means that copper would take ~1.5 times as long to increase in temperature and this would be reflected in duty cycle.

For lasers the heatsinks we are making are generally small enough to begin with that price isn't a huge issue. I picked up ~20" of solid 3/4" copper for 22$ in the scrap bin.

New, 12" of 3/4" 6061 aluminum is ~3$ and C110 copper is 27$ for the same. Even so, a heatsink wont use more than an inch or so, the real pain is that copper is harder to cut and machine.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I don't understand if igor shipped all batch 2 or not. I'am a bit scared about post service here in italy :D

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Does anyone know if the first multipack of batch #2 (before the customs/battery stuff) has reached the USA yet? I *think* I am part of that batch since I didn't want batteries with the laser. The way I understand it, someone (Glenn?) is shipping individual lasers to those of us in the US, rather than Igor sending them individually from Slovenia (?)

This waiting stuff is killing me...any info is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Don't feel too bad, I'm still waiting for two lasers from USA batch one. :'(

ouch. Now I feel like a total whiner. I was hoping a couple of weeks from the "they are all shipped" notice would see me with a new laser; looks like I should revise my estimate...

I am in 'no battery' Batch #2B I think and I have not received mine yet - I would think you and I are in the same batch.

Igor and Glenn should have tracking info for the shipment from Slovenia to the USA.  Perhaps one of them would be kind enough to post it here so everyone could be 'in-the-know' as to the status of their shipments.  They were going in 1 large package to Glenn in CA via an expedited shipping service, and then broken up and shipped USPS Priority mail.  USPS should be 2-3 days to anywhere in the continental USA from California.

Igor shipped on Mon/Tues, figure it left on Wed via Air - arrived in CA by Friday for delivery to Glenn by Mon next week, USPS pickup on Tues next week... so... all said I'd guess Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat next week people in USA Batch #2 should see their lasers showing up.  Someone feel free to correct me if my calculations are off.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Hey everyone, Igor is working so hard now, he asked me to post and let you good folks know what's up. Here's what he said:
"Could you please post for me on my thread, that I have horribly important work with a Monday morning deadline to finish for my main "real work" customer right now, so I won't be able to get online until I'm done... I will answer all emails as soon as I'm done with this, but it's really important. This is my main customer. And they can't do business without my devices at all!"

If you appreciate Igor near as much as I do, you will want to have him accommodated in these important endeavors, so thanks for your understanding ! Best Wishes! -Glenn

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

how much will a red burner cost with power between 250-300mw?
allready saw that $40 red laser on dx 200mw, i can't believe it's that cheap.
if i can get a nice 250-300 (200-250 is also good) would be more special than the one of dx.
does any1 know why it's only $40 there? 200mw for freaking $40 XD still can't believe it, i think the quality is not high or something?
btw, im new in the ''laser business'' so i don't realy know alot about it, i just want a red burner for a nice price :)

What are you attempting to burn? If you read the very very very 1st post of this thread I bet you'd find a bit of info regarding the cost of one of IgorT's red lasers.

Thanks for the update - like I mentioned in a previous post, I would bet the lasers will being arriving in the US early next week. ::)

igort charges a higher amount (200 and something dollars), but the built quality is much higher. I'm also quite new to the biz, but it seems green has more burning power per mW than red light, as it is absorbed more into most surfaces. Blu-Ray, at the same power mW as a red, will burn considerably better, even on white surfaces. Blu ray has many other interesting properties, so if you don't mind spending the amount for a red form IgorT, why not go for a blu-ray? I own the dx 200 laser, and for the price it is amazing. If you want a red burner for a similar price, buy the dx 200 and fit a new open can diode in it. this can give up to 300+ mW. you may need a new driver circuit, both of which can be looked up here on the forums. i saw a topic specificly for updating the dx200 here on laserpointerforums.

does anybody know what is goin on with batch2?????????
last time i spoke to igor (a week ago now!!) he said he would post everything but i havnt heard anything yet.....
now, i know he said he is busy for a project needed by monday, but still it is not really nice not to hear or know anything about your orders "status"........do you guys know what i mean???im not complaining or moaning, just looking at the point of view of a customer...........
