Wow that does look sweet on there! Very nice picture too FrancoRob! :gj:

Jay, how do you make them knurled?

I need that!

I only have them in black and smooth, not that they are not great as well...
DarkHorse does great work too!.

But this suits a silver host better..

It is done on the lathe with a special tool made specifically for knurling. I have a scissors type like so:

knurling%20tool.jpg

The key is to get the spindle speed correct, depending on the diameter of the piece that you want to knurl.

The tricky part is knurling small parts like the EzFocus adapters. For the different ones that I make, I have custom made adapters to hold the parts far enough away from the lathe chuck, so that I can get the knurling tool in the correct position without hitting the lathe chuck with the tool...

Jay & Igor:

I'm not only glad, but more than happy!!:D:p:beer:

Igor:

Well, to be honest, this time I have used a little bit of incense....

You MADE that tool?

EDIT: Sorry, read wrong. But still.

See, this is why i love your work, you really put your heart into it!

What is it made of? Steel i guess.. Does it CRUSH the aluminum?

You could probably make parts, that would make my REAL work easier to do!

Would you like to try? I need a nozzle for my Breath-Feedback devices, you know, the ones i showed you once... :)
Remember the photos?

The complex mask that has to measure breathing and send data to computer wirelessly?

Basically i just need something for the breath sensor. An aluminum holder on a stick would be just perfect, but i don't know how to make them. :(

Oh no... I did not make the knurling tool. Although it is a simple tool. But the knurling wheels/cutters are the part that I would not be able to make.

What I made was some custom holder tools, that are needed for being able to knurl such a small piece of work like one of these EzFocus adapters.

You can't just put it in the lathe chuck and get the knurling tool to it. So I had do make mounting tools (a couple of different sized ones) that I can attach the EzFocus adapters to with a threaded screw. Then I can hold the mounting tool in the lathe chuck, and still be able to get my knurling tool to the material without the lathe chuck getting in the way...

Jay....

I was thinking of doing a mini-test buy for my lens, for a small number of friends.

I'd trade you a lens for a CR2 Keychain host kit?

I'll need to do a LOT of work tomorrow, i wish i could keep reading the forum instead...

But i'll probably have to work through the night.. :(

So i may have to go quiet tomorrow and catch some sleep tonight.

Questions should be posted on this thread, most of my buyers can answer the majority, i'll do the rest when i'm done...

I need to make GGW PIV Plots on monday, individual ones, i'll be forced to do it on request basis tho. :(

Sounds like a good deal!

Are you talking about bare lenses Igor? Or mounted lenses...

Jay, i'd MOUNT them but in plastic lens nuts, with a thin focusing ring..

If you could make focusing rings thinner for me, that would help A LOT!

I don't have many thin ones left... :cryyy:

You used to machine them thinner for BluRays, right?

Jay, since you stopped making lasers, people don't respect the amount of work that goes into one anymore...

That's why i was sad when you stopped, and regret it even more now!

Sure, it's easy to trim them thinner on the lathe. Just let me know how many you need, and the exact thickness you want them to be...

Respect? Come on now Igor... You (and the quality of your work) are among the most respected at LPF!

It's probably just that LPF is so popular, that we get a ton of new ones is all...

Great Jay!

I'll host a mini Test Buy for friends then, to get some lenses out in the general population, get some reviews done.. :D

They cost $48 plus FexEx a piece, but if i mount them by hand, the price is not too bad.

I can't believe i used to think i could mount 250 by hand for the big GB!

I must have been crazy or something...

I'm thinking 10-20 lenses, for a a short list of people. Get that lathe up and running for the focusing rings.

Do you get focusing rings appart from modules?

Thanks Igor!
