FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. 1W "1000mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right" :D

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Awesome diode you have there Angelos

Would you say that it has also a higher wavelength? Once saw one with 412nm if I remember correctly.

Do you see a visible difference next to your 768mW SL-V and does your 940mW one burns better? :D

Anyway, great work

:thanks: Buddy. Iam not sure if it has a Higher WL but what i have noticed is that Higher powered 405nm laser seem to almost appear Purple/White in the middle. It for Sure is a Lighter purple/violet then my 6x or even my 768mW SL-V.

Not sure to call it a Higher WL but More like its Brighter rather then Dimmer. Once i Put this laser in a New Host I will compare the 2 beams for you to see.:) I just have to wait till it comes in which should not be to much longer.:)

That... is... EPIC.

It indeed is.:)

Wow~ Very awesome!
I'd like to get a 405nm high power laser someday.

Thanks Buddy glad you like it. 405nm is a Very Nice WL. I love how it makes everything glow in the room. It reminds me of turning on a black Light.

(from the viewpoint of a relative newbie); How often do "freak" diodes like this occur? Who manufactured it?

*IF* it were mine, I would NOT push it just to attempt to get it to 1W. I would keep it.
If it's an "unholy mutant" from a glitch in manufacturing, it might have an inherently shorter lifespan anyway.

Its Rare. Ive test quit a few of these sleds out and they are all Normal or a slight Higher then Normal. THis is the First diode that i found out of all the ones i tested that put out so high.

In the OP i did say the Sled Was a BDR-S06J but iam Not quick sure who Makes the Burner. If anyone would Know it would be Daguin.:)

Its Going to have a short life. Regardless if its a Freak diode you are still running it Higher then we Normally do. Its just this diode Puts out more at the same currant as a Normal diode witch is why its called a Freak.

Iam not worried about killing it like i said i have plenty sleds But its nice to have such High Power.:D So Not sure what i will do.:undecided:

Very cool indeed!
I love the 405 12x diodes. Even now with the 445's they still are my favorite diodes.
The beam specs of them are fantastic. It's by far the best laser for burning in distance or burning in general I owe.
Just a pitty that 12x still is the highest powered 405 diode.
But with some guys like you pushing it at almost 1W ;) It's just Wow!

Yea 405nm is still one of my most favorite Wavelengths. I like it more then 445nm.

Here are 2 new videos. Both videos Have Fog in the room and most of the fog has disappeared to make it have a Nice clean looking beam. Laser in the video is the 950mW 405nm and my Custom Modded Wicked Lasers Arctic on Low Pulsed Mode at 215mW.

Lights ON.....
<<<<< HD Please. :D

Lights OFF.....
<<<<< HD Please. :D

That is the closet 445nm laser i have in brightness to the 950mW 405nm laser. The 950mW 405nm laser about as Bright as the 215mW 445nm laser.

:thanks: For Looking.!!!

New Videos.:D

Catch Fire.
<<<< HD Please. :D

New LPM Test
<<<< HD Please. :D

I think I can Light it Much Faster then i did in the video. I dont Burn Alot and i know you have to find the sweet spot to light something on fire. But still pretty cool.

New peak Power of 956mW. I dint use the laser for few hours so it gave a New Peak Power. THe First LPM test was after i was using it for some time through out the day.:) Regardless still good.

Thanks.

Lazeerer; Thanks for answering my question (re: "How rare is it?"). I'm still relatively new at this hobby, and I learn something new almost every time I log on.

Ok, then... if it is bound to have a short life no matter what, when it DOES die, I hope you give it a proper funeral with full honors.

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Woah this makes me want to knife edge two 12xs together and run them at 500mw. Would anyone be willing build that and any idea how much it would cost? This thing makes my 12x 475mw chrome pen look like a joke. ( But it's still awesome.)

It could be done but the proper mounts for diodes and mirrors arnt cheap. It would be cool but still not super bright because 405nm isnt very visible. You would also lose the awesome beam specs even if you had a pro align them.

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

There's always a beam expander and I'm more interested in a box style host that's not really handheld, but still portable. I guess I could just get two 12xs and make two labbies and then just focus them on the same point.

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Wow! Very nice diode you've got there.

Makes me want to up the current on mine. :eg: Right now I have it set to 500mA and it levels off at 716mW with a G-1.

I very well might turn the current up to 600mA and see what happens...

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Will we ever get 16x BRs in the next year or so?

Theres a quad layer BRB drive that is possibly more powerful. Daguin has disassembled one and it waiting on modules to test it (3.2mm can).

Awsome! I wonder then the 1W mark will be broken.

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Trade you for a "hot" 445. ;)

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

956mW :eek::wtf:

I'm super jealous, I can only imagine how well that laser burns stuff. My 800mW 405 has left marks on my ceiling from being focused to infinity... watch where you point that freak of yours:p

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

^ My 12x from RA_pierce burned white blueish reflective walls in my room from a foot away and it's only 475mw. It also makes non white paper glow orange in under 2 seconds. I can't even imagine 960mw of blu-ray.

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

940mw 405mw ? If you get bored of a wanna be 445?

I'll take it off your hands....lol:wave::wave:

Nice Job.....Pics are pretty nice!

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

I see. Didn´t expected that you see a difference next to your 768mW!

Great, I´m looking forward to your comparison vid

Re: FREAK 12x 405nm Diode. "940mW" <<< "Yes you Read it Right"

Time for a title change :D

to answer JBtexas's question:

Im pretty sure its similar to electronic components like voltage regulators. For example: Jib77's drivers... He used to offer 1.3a -1.6a drivers because the power put out would vary with each IC

Now with laser diodes, I think it has to do with the die and how much current it uses to create a certain amount of photons... It could be because of a slightly larger die, less resistance between all the connections and lots of different things.

More efficient diodes can also take more current because they convert it into more coherent light instead of heat.

bla bla bla... I hope that crapload of letters are accurate... :D
