First and Third Person shooter Games thread

Hey guys, what about F.E.A.R. 3 ?

I just finished F.E.A.R. 2 again after a while, to recap, and then 3 after that. Man, both are some epically great games!

Though, 3 is not as scary as the first two I must say, but graphics are wicked and action even more.

I will finish both 2 and 3 again, on hardest difficulty, take some screenshots for ya' guys :)

^ F.E.A.R. 1 was awesome, the followers, not so IMO

I´m now between playing Dead Space 2, Crysis, LA Noire, Red Faction Armageddon

(Disclaimer: I haven't read through this entire thread, but I did search for some key words)
OK, It's here now! Yippeee! Battlefield 3. 2 was fantastic, 3 is simply amazing. And I'm just talking PS3 here. My PC would have a hard time playing The Bard's Tale (for all you old enough to remember that gem)

Anyone want to play online, form a squad, co-op, etc? PM

I like F.E.A.R. 3 ! There are some nice details. Fortunately i got the english version. At the german version there is no blood only a kind of dark smoke if somebody get killed. And the dead bodies desapear very fast.

EDIT: DJNY, go for Dead Space 2. Very very nice game. Do you play at PC ?

I´m VERY dissapointed about BF3 (for the PS3), especially from the graphiks - tektures and shadows.. games like Killzone, Crysis, Resistance3, Rage show that DICE hasn´t pushed the PS3 to the limit with BF3.

I always liked to play with FEAR with the blood patches.

For Dead Space, I played it about 7 hours ago, currently at chapter 4. Yes, very awesome game! Played it in total darkness with some nice headphones.

I'm not much of a follower of Battlefield series, as far as I see they are just like Call of Duty?

Let's talk classics instead.

Max Payne, anybody?

I finished it just the other day (I get nostalgic about these things :p ).

Just now did I appreciate the game, it's dialogue, especially monologue and dark atmosphere. I played it as a kid but just now I can see how awesome the story is actually made and presented to the player. Max's metaphores and way of talking is just awesome.

Ofcourse, I immediately set to Max Payne 2:

Speaking of which, I assume that people who played Max Payne 2 before, know about incredible amount of modifications for the game.

Personally, out of ALL those mods, Cinema 2 is my favourite.

Things changed are somewhat subtle, however what I like most is the fact that the game still remains Max Payne, just enhanced to a new level of awesomeness. Other mods make you play Neo, Punisher, other random movie dudes, make you shoot weapons which in the in game do not make a bit of sense, Kung Fu mods and others...

F:)ck that. Cinema does not change the "Max Payne" feeling of the game, just makes it a whole lot better.

All gun sounds are changed into something better, Max wears sunglasses and full lenght leather trench coat, guns are redesigned, some new guns added, music during bullet time is added, overall, game has a better feel to it.

Assassins creed anyone?

Btw Eud, how do you tolerate low fps? No offence intended but I see games as "choppy" under 40 to 50 fps.

I usually set my fps to 125 but on games like CoD4 I use 250 or 333 due to it giving you advantages since CoD uses a quake engine.

You do realise your monitor can only display a maximum of 60 FPS ? :D

Low FPS is 25 or lower for me, 30 or above is already "Alright" for me.

Depends on the game actually, in fast FPS shooters like Call of Duty, I settle for no less than maximum of 60 FPS, though no CoD game yet goes below that on maximum settings on my PC.

In games where frames are not that important, for example Asassin's Creed, I'd settle for 30 or so, if my computer were unable to run it at maxed out settings.

OK, BF3 may be not much more than a rehash of BF2, but... damn you guys and your PC standards :scowl::D
I like it.
Now, you wanna talk classic?
Bard's Tale
Wizardry ONE!
Is my age showing?

Woah, easy :D I can't say I know either of those titles you just mentioned.

And I meant classics like uhh, well, not too old, games that defined the games we play today.

If you want to REALLY talk classics, try these:
Tyrian - (there's an open source project, google it) I play it to this day
Supaplex - the single most difficult god-damn game I have ever played in my life, and amazingly it's fun at the same time

Those were PC legends I remember from my childhood, along with games played on shitty NES copies, such as
Glaxian
Legend of Kage
Contra II (also one of most challenging games out there)
Battle City

I should change the title from "First and Third person shooter games" to "ALL games"...

I do remember Tyrian, good stuff. Forgive the grouchy post of mine, just being jealous since I don't have a rig I can play the games most often mentioned here. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way talking sh#*, just poking fun.
By the way, Fallout? Yeah, I can honestly say that I played the original known as Wasteland. I had it on an Apple 2c+, and it was one of the greatest games of all time! Much of the Fallout 3 story was taken from Wasteland.
Ok, I won't bore anyone else with more of the games-that-used-to-be-great-but-would-suck-if-played-now stories.
Good fun!

Nonsense! If game was great, it'll always be great, if you have a nack for that kind of thing!

And, please don't get defensive so easily, it's all good fun!

I'm pretty sure you've got the rig to play Max Payne.

May Payne 1 was out 2001, and Max Payne 2 2003.

You should really give it a go.

But what happens when your monitor has a 120hz refresh rate 0.o
Then it's a maximum of 120 FPS :D But, are you sure it can do 120 Hertz?

I have only heard of 120 FPS in 3D-ready monitors, so it's actually again only 60 FPS per each eye.

Figures you are getting when measuring with FRAPS, such as 200 or 300 FPS, is the theoretical maximum output from your graphics card, i.e. it can output that much frames, but your monitor cannot display all of them anyway.
